Thank your local shop

I’ve been friends with my bmx shop owner since I was 12 yrs old. I would spend countless hours in his place just hanging around, learning how to maintain my bike and just all around bullshitting. I never asked for anything free or discounted. Now 20 yrs later, I’m not in there as often, but I still go to him for my families bicycle needs. I took my bike for a tune up since I hadn’t rode for a few months. He ended up finding some cracks in the frame so he offered me a frame for $100. I took the deal and came back later that day.
What he pulled out wasn’t just a frame but damn near a new bike. Didn’t charge me for anything.
