Scunthorpe United are dead. What Happened?
Scunthorpe United are dead. What Happened?
Scunthorpe United are dead. What Happened?

[Applause] let me set the scene the fifth of April 2009 Luton Town versus scunthorpe United the Football League trophy final at Wembley the same season that Luton Town were given a minus 30 point deduction scunthorpe were on the up lutant town went on to win that game three two and lutant town went on to get relegated in the conference Premiere at the same time scunthorpe United in that same season went on to the playoffs and met at Wembley again against millwall beating them 3-2 after this year Luton were in the conference Premier and in Dire Straits while scumpop United were playing in a championship for only their third promotion to the second division in their entire history now a fast forward 14 years later where lutant town are now playing in a premier league and living a dream of every single English football club in the country while scone for United fair to say the last six years could not have got any worse scunthorp United are nearly dead and this is why [Music] first things first comment down below your thoughts on scump United or really just any team in the kind of lower efl pyramid as sadly I do believe that scunthorpe similar to a buoy or currently as a South and United will not be the last and would be many times that we’re gonna be seeing teams going through a bit of a tough time and potentially experiencing being extinct from football I would like to shout out to a man called John who emailed me in the middle of September who gave me a long long email going in depth into the current situation at scumpop United he emailed me on regards of doing a video on his Club who are in Dire Straits at risk of no longer existing and seriously needs more attention onto them now of course I am simply just a YouTuber and what I say will not make too much of a difference in a grand scheme of things but I can understand and why it would be incredibly frustrating to have what to you is your world your football club your community fall apart and no one seems to know or care and I can completely understand the frustration that scuff up fans or any fans in the lower half a period experiencing similar Financial issues would be experiencing so yeah like subscribe and let’s get into it foreign scunthorpe United have pluntered down the pyramid and now find themselves in not only the national league but to the National League North the safe division in English football their former owner Peter Swann ran out of money or The Willpower to fund the club and in January of this year they faced Oblivion at this stage when the club was seemingly no longer resisting the media only then picked up their situation and found a new buyer called David Hilton at the time they seemingly saved a club interest from the media instantly fed it away and many assumed that everything has since been an improvement everything seemed that way at first with statements that the debts have been paid and the ground had been bought things quickly turned out however that it became clear that there was a disagreement between Hilton and Swan their former on a new owner over their ground deal and that is the big talking point here that’s their stadium in glanford park is no longer owned by scuff up United and that alone is a key problem as if you do not own your own stadium then what happens to your stadium is simply out of your control and the situation is is that as of the seventh of October they are kicked out of their own stadium because they simply don’t own it they can no longer play there and we’ll have to play 30 minutes down the road in a place called Gainsborough meaning that the fans no longer have a club in their own town and even this is in dispute as scunthorpe put out a Club statement saying that they will be playing at Gainsborough Stadium the north home however Gainsborough has came out publicly saying that this was issued without the knowledge or consent the issue is is that the granford park owner which is their previous owner in Peter swan wants a certain price and if the owner of scunthorpe is not willing to pay for it and agree to a deal then tough luck so as of right now in four days time to this video being uploaded scunthorpe or homeless but it gets worse as their current owner in David Hilton has put out a statement as of a few days ago last Thursday that he has completely withdrawn his funding to the club and who is David Hilton well no one knows as that is not even his name let’s get into that part quite a lot of speculation has arrived over their new owner David Hilton and some negative ones and concerning ones at that fair to say that their current owner has had a pretty sketchy past involving fraudulence there was also speculation at David Hilton who had accusations of going to prison he simply denied that too as it came out that his last name was not indeed Hilton but white his name was David white but changed his name due to personal reasons some truth came out that he went to prison for fraud and has gone by four different aliases in David White David Anderson David Melos and David Hilton but if you have gone down under four different names in the past then you have got to be hiding some dodgy things Hilton of course came out saying that he did serve time in prison and contradicted everything that he said previously however he came out saying that he suffered from depression and deserved a second chance however simply due to the fatty lied in the first place people thought about what else has he also lied about former players like George Taft who came out and questioned about unpaid wages and pension contributions from his time in a club so what’s happening now Scotland United were in the championship and were already seen as The Underdogs at that level and now playing in a national league North which seemingly are not doing too bad in the pitch as it stands currently sat in fourth place and the players and the fans seemingly have come together even stronger than ever with fans in the community coming together even more to help save their football club and the players have been understood to receive that message from the fans too knowing that they are not alone and that it’s not their fault but as it stands they have no money no home on the brink of collapsing as of right now simply no hope that bills have gone unpaid for the last couple weeks and months their fans many have been going home and away for years and decades are now being banned from games due to criticizing the ownership of social media you may have seen this online a bit however this is fully true that if you could size a Club online you therefore rightfully banned in the eyes of the owners on the 28th of September one of the most bleakest Club statements I’ve ever seen came out from the club social media team the walls are caving in at scunthorp United the statements said the following the club owner and chairman has recently notified the board of directors that his decision to have draw his funding from the club moving forward he has also notified them that he feels his position a club is untenable and is actively seeking a way out it went on further to disclose that falls in attendances will undoubtedly mean further cuts and this will inevitably impact the playing Squad and promotion aims scunthorpe United are currently seeking immediate and Urgent funding there is no guarantees that this funding will come the club statement even disclosed that there were no potential investors willing to save scumfall this weekend scunthorp is ready to play Brackley town at their current Ground clanford Park the club’s home since 1988. redundancies at the club have also followed with the numbers of many of the Staffing members being stripped back scunthorpe Club officers are all housed at a stadium in Glenford Park is the first team training site and it remains unclear that this would even be available or open to use after October 7th their current or I guess will be suing their former owner in David white or Hilton or whatever you want to call him gave some insight into the situation of why East doctors funding this was on Facebook where it responded back to a fan online he said the following I’ve said I’ll carry on working hard but won’t give that club my children’s inheritance knowing my days there are numbered I can always leave the keys under the map for you if you like and your Club will be gone in a week and that is what he’s done I mean imagine that imagine this happening to your Club this man has thrown scunthorp united into a fire they have no owner now with no funding therefore no wages they have no Stadium they have no Academy they have no offices they have nothing in a season that’s on the pitch has been giving us gun for fans hope being fourth place in the National League North and currently set to be likely in the playoffs everything is falling apart around them off the pitch a serious investigation was found on Hilton he pled guilty to 15 counts of fraud by a false representation it looks like the end game is here he was lorded as the savior of the club and it’s so crazy to think how fast this has all just got even worse I mean there was some hope at first Hilton’s plan of building a new stadium on the outskirts of scunthorpe a project that he said will be set in place in the 2025-26 season this is now seemingly over as is the existence of the club’s Academy which was wound up before this campaign on top of that they banned at least three supporters via email so this is where scunthorpe finally sit by the 7th of October they will simply have no hole any hope of any takeover would involve some rather large Financial commitment including the fact that scunthorpe still all 1.4 million to the efl from a covid-19 loan taken out back in 2020 including other debts and liabilities that could also add on an extra million on top of that also include buying at the stadium at the same time which involves the training facilities and also offices scunthorpe needs a investor a new owner that is fit and proper and passionate which is hard to find nowadays and willing to put three four five million into a team which seems to make no money so why would anyone do that for example the previous owner in Peter Swann who left the club earlier in the year confirmed that he lost about 20 million over his time at the club in around a eight-year time span so why would anyone take the risk and that is a sad reality of owning a football club we are seeing the next buoy in front of everyone eyes I did a video six seven months ago about South End who are going through many difficulties however this one feels like a step further and with the official statement of a cut of their funding this does appear that the club’s descent still can get deeper the man that bought the club for three pounds I mean in no world should ever pass a fit and proper owners test but yet he did and due to how desperate discomfort was at a time due to the previous ownership of swan caused this situated to happen in the first place if you ask gunfight fan I’m sorry um and and it must feel on a sort of selfish level it must feel even even more frustrating and this dare I say infuriating that you see the the amount of money spent in the Premier League the money spent by old clubs in Premier League but you know your local likes of Chelsea and how much they spent in one window and just to know that a million two million can save your entire football club the complete disparity of the divisions is just Insanity one owner once decoder what one anything to to save a football club and to save a community two million of course is a lot of money but when it comes to footballers and especially Premier League football that seems like pennies now so yeah it’s gonna hurt and I’m just and I’m sorry about that tell me your thoughts down below tell me your thoughts about where football is going especially for the lower heart because the the price of being in the championship or in the Premier League the price is so high that some clubs spend or they can to get there and if it fails then it will cost them and we’ve seen this time and time again of clubs spending too much than what he really should do to get to the promised land and fail and start falling down the pyramid and with owners at this level some are simply not fit to ruin a football club but yet get past if it’s buoy if it’s Bolton if it’s Macclesfield town if it’s Oldham if it’s Coventry City if it’s saffron United they will always be another team in crisis and it won’t end until something is put in place I don’t know what that thing is I’m not a genius I’m not the man to make that decision but someone is and I hope that that gets done soon thank you for being here and no doubt to this video will make no impact in scumbag United at all in terms of getting them out of the situation but thanks to John for emailing me and telling me his story and his Club story at least this will at least help them feel like they’re not alone and if that means anything then it’s that so thank you for being here thank you for the Love on the channel I can’t thank you enough so I’ll see you next time best of luck

  1. I remember passing scunthorpe United ground on way to grimbsy been to a few away games with scunthorpe HOPE THRY SURVIVE from a ipswich fan 👍🚜🔵🔵⚪️🚜

  2. COV fan here, the mismanagement of these clubs, unchecked, amazes me,there should be something place to monitor clubs that hit a criteria placing a club in hands of a body who have the best interests of the club in hand, set up by the EFL,before things unravel, instead of trying to punish clubs/fans with demotion/points deduction, its just not right. It nearly happened to COV, just getting out in time, this will happen time and time again until attitudes change.

  3. Aston Villa fan here. Now I know we didn’t fall down the football league pyramid like Scunthorpe sadly have but not so long ago, we were in the championship & were on the brink of going out of business because of the shady dealings of our then owner Tony Xia. Was awful thinking my beloved club could become extinct. Thankfully we got new owners who have took us back to where we belong. I really hope Scunthorpe get a new buyer soon & get back to where they belong too. Really sad to watch things like this. I wish them nothing but the best.

  4. my team wolves were in minutes from going out of existence in the 1980's , have sympathy for Scunthorpe, wolves were so close to being dead, but we some how got back, all the best scunny

  5. I'm an Ipswich Town supporter, this genuinely makes me sad. It just reinforces my opinion that if you're not in the Premier League, no-one in football authorities or media, gives a toss about you.

  6. Lol bye bye Scunthorpe United😁. I'm happy that I support a Premier League club. Named Chelsea FC. Do you know what. The spot where the old stadion is would be a perfect place for a new shopping center or a big supermarket.

  7. they blocked me on twitter for saying they made a tweet witha photo of the manager with his hand in the position that looked a bit like an austrian painter

    fk scunthorpe

  8. Shouldn't premier league clubs especially the very rich ones be made donate money to lower league clubs who are struggling financially. It could literally save clubs from going extinct. I know if i was say the Chelsea owner instead of giving 120mil for a player u dont even need id rather give a few million to save a football club.

  9. As an American, I could not imagine if a professional team in any of the popular leagues went bust like this; the only way a city loses its team in 2023 is by way of relocation.

This is the reason why American soccer/football doesn't have promotion and relegation; sports in the US are largely money-driven, and lower finances can truly screw over an otherwise profitable team.

Not only is it awful for the players and coaches on this sinking ship, the fans who've supported this team for years (and in some cases, DECADES) get the worst end of this horrific deal.

When you grow up in a city that's loyal to its team (the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals for me), you develop a strong emotional bond with that team. You live and die by your team every weekend.

And if you lose that team, you lose a part of your life.

I remember Bury FC's expulsion from the league in 2019, and I honestly almost cried. As the final whistle blew, those thousands of fans at Gigg Lane lost an integral part of their lives, and it was devastating.

  10. It's always very sad to see any football club get into what seems like terminal decline, where enough money and the right ideas match up. Things just go round and round in a vicious circle. Everyone wants a good experience at a game, watching what's on the field and the facilities off it. These cost eyewatering amounts of money now, which for a team like Scunthorpe is hard to find long term. I don't like the fact that now, even in lower leagues, unless you have a millionaire, even, billionaire owner, you're always worried about surviving, no matter how good things might be on the pitch. Football is complicated now and excuse the nostalgic look back, but i loved it when it was just local lads and businessmen running things, and the connection between players and the communities were much stronger. I hope Scunthorpe manage to find a way back with the right backers and support. Fans will always be there no matter what.

  11. Honestly make me so mad to watch the big PL clubs spend stupid amounts of money while so much of the English game is being lost.

Tally up the amount of money it would have taken to bail out Scunthorpe, Bury, Macclesfield, Southend, Wigan etc. In total, centuries of club history and fandom. All for the price of… Onana, or someone not even that good.

  12. Lower league football is doomed !!.. unfortunately.
Money pit …. All football clubs are money pits !
Unless you know a wealthy Arab..
Man Utd have been in debt for decades !!… At least 1 billion ✅ Fact.

  13. Hi just watched the video and I feel sick for the club players and especially the fans, I support Stockport county andwe have been where you are but thankfully we got the right people behind us and we are most grateful to our council for buying the ground to keep county alive. My heart goes out to you all and I am very angry for these people too ruin community's people's hopes and dreams and players livelihood make me sick. I wish everybody connected to scunthorpe all the luck in the world and I hope one day I will be able to boo your team at Edgeley Park ❤ god bless

  14. Tell u what mate you've really got your shit together great content recently btw. I remember you from years ago being a lot younger more ranty shouting etc. This is much improved content lad. Keep going.

  15. This is so sad the state of football especially with these legendary teams dying,. Now how about this as a mad idea why doesn't the Football League / Premier League create a scheme where owners of the wealthy prem teams setup a feeder system so when you buy a prem team you also take on a feeder club or clubs in the lower divisions so that's it's seen to help homegrown players and teams. It's a no brainer as then this will help alleviate these issues and have stable owners. Just a thought though but football needs saving..

  16. Excellent video Vizeh, I applaud you for highlighting what I can only describe as "heartache" as an Iron fan and the strife, im please to report that through the fantastic efforts of Michelle Harness a local business owner we have our home secured and future a little brighter, especially with recent news of our transfer embargo being lifted – the football communitybandnsupporter groups were the ones who made this possible we sit in 2nd in NLN and hold put hope we can make the playoffs

  17. Six months since this video and Scunthorpe has actually earned themselves a playoff spot to get to the national league
If they do then this will be crazy

  18. It seems alot of great clubs lower leagues are struggling – I'm an Australian fan and love the small teams Barnet howrow town and any yellow and black clubs except idiots at Gloucester the tigers changed to yellow and red WTF any way great vid

  19. Not as bad as torquay, Scunthorpe did almost promote back to 5th division (lost in playoffs).

In my FM 21 save, Scunthorpe had promoted to EPL in season 2038/2039, to play their only EPL season.
Only to lose every single game.
Now they are surfing across EFL, rarely relegating to ENL.

  20. This is fake news. I just checked my Fifa game and Scunthorpe just won a treble, Premier League, Champions league and FA cup all in one year after going from League 2 all the way to the Prem in just 4 seasons. We have players like Foden, De Ligt and Haaland now. GG
