All the sentiment around brake levers is that I need to angle them in. For the past year I’ve had them angled inwards but would still be uncomfortable on them.

Bought some new SRAME Force levers and this time angles them how SRAM states; with the slightly angled upwards from ground level and the markings on the hood cover in line with the flare.

I’ve never felt more comfortable on the bike!

But I feel like I’m gaslighting myself into thinking I need to angle in the hoods more because it’s, “more comfortable and aero”.

Convince me that I need to angle them in. Or tell me I should just leave them alone and keep riding them as is!

  1. SmoothShoeHorn on

Guessing its different for each person but its so easy to undo if you don’t like it. In my case I found tilted-in more comfortable especially on longer rides.

  2. You don’t. I do like a slight flare though. I thought it was a gravel marketing gimmick but I have them on one of my road bikes and find it quite nice.

  3. I ride my bike on a safe empty road and hold an bike tool in my hand and I keep adjusting whatever I’m obsessing over till I’m happy and comfortable. Then stop thinking about it and go have lunch. Maybe dinner depending what time it is.

  4. I always tilted them in slightly bc it took pressure off my wrist, I have sensitive hands. Now I just look like another cycling bro with angled hoods lol

  5. Whatever works for you. Mine are angled in because it’s more comfortable on long rides. It’s easy to change back if it doesn’t help. Don’t overthink it.
