  1. I get this sometimes if I pack the washing machine too full of clothes and it can’t rinse well enough. Less detergent and more water, especially if you also have sunscreen and deodorant in the wash.

Chamois butter that when you sweat, it kinda leeches out in that pattern depending on how you apply it. Then maybe your detergent surfactants or anti-redeposition agents are kinda coagulating to make the stain.

This is a constant topic on laundry subreddits. High efficiency machines don’t have enough water to lift all residue on big or heavily soiled loads, or in machines with residue from using too much detergent ( the amount listed on the bottle is a lie to get you to use more product). Use 2 tablespoons, extra rinse, and if you think it’s sunscreen oil add biz powder so the lipase can dissolve the oil.

  4. Yup it’s sunscreen. Happened to me when I put sunscreen on and straight after I needed to use the shitter

  5. Blue Lizard is a mineral sunscreen I’m pretty sure – which tends to stain clothes white temporarily. Switch sunscreens with different filters.

It could also be detergent stuck in the chamois so you can hand rinse the padding with running water, squeezing it over and over.

  6. If you had taken this to a laundry subreddit, you probably could’ve slid under the radar. But now… straight to bcj

  7. My cheap renter-tier washing machine leaves these marks on dark clothes as well – it’s detergent residue.

Use less detergent and smaller loads of laundry. It also helps to do an empty load with a half cup of white vinegar every now and then to clear out any soap remnants.
