Welcome to York, one of England’s most captivating historic cities with over 2,000 years of history. Known for its stunning medieval city walls that you can still walk along, the breathtaking York Minster cathedral, and charming cobbled streets lined with unique shops and cozy cafes. York’s rich heritage blends Roman, Viking, and medieval influences, creating a vibrant atmosphere full of stories waiting to be discovered. Let’s explore this beautiful city together and uncover its timeless charm. We’re now walking part of the York City Wall Trail, a 3.4 km route along the city’s medieval walls. Lendal Bridge is a historic iron bridge over the River Ouse, built in 1863. Large gardens surrounding Yorkshire Museum, with mature trees, Roman ruins & a medieval abbey. The Yorkshire Museum, located in the Museum Gardens, was founded in 1830 and houses important collections in archaeology, geology, and natural history. It’s home to some of Britain’s finest Roman, Viking, and medieval artifacts. Founded in Harrogate in 1919 and opened in York in 1937. Betty’s is a renowned Yorkshire institution known for its high-quality cakes, chocolates, traditional afternoon tea, and elegant Art‑Deco interior—originally inspired by the RMS Queen Mary liner . The St. Helen’s Square branch features three floors including the Belmont Suite upstairs (for reserved afternoon teas). It’s £44.95 per person without champagne. The sandwiches were really delicious. I might have had too high expectations for
the scone — it was a bit underwhelming. The Shambles is one of the best-preserved medieval streets in Europe, dating back to the 14th century. While The Shambles wasn’t used in the Harry Potter films, many believe it inspired Diagon Alley because of its magical, old-world look. It was originally home to butcher shops, and some buildings still have meat hooks and wide window ledges. Today, it’s a popular tourist spot with shops, cafes, and a unique, narrow, timber-framed charm. This is how the streets look after 5:30 PM.
Early mornings and late afternoons are the best times to take photos. Shambles Market is a historic open-air market with over 70 stalls offering fresh produce, street food, clothing, crafts, and more. It’s open daily and cherished by both locals and visitors. York Minster is one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in Northern Europe,
known for its stunning architecture and magnificent stained glass windows. Construction began in the 13th century and took over 250 years to complete. The Queen’s Path is a historic walkway beside York Minster, marking where
Queen Elizabeth II walked during Royal Maundy ceremonies in 1972 and 2012. The Royal Maundy is a traditional ceremony dating back to the 13th century, where the monarch distributes specially minted coins to elderly men and women — one red purse and one white — corresponding to the monarch’s age. It’s part of the Paddington Visits Trail, featuring 23 Paddington Bear statues across
the UK and Ireland to celebrate the release of Paddington in Peru . Bootham Bar is one of York’s four main medieval gateways, built on top of an old Roman entrance — with the current structure dating back to the 11th century. Monk Bar is the tallest and most elaborate of York’s medieval gateways, originally built in the 14th century as part of the city’s defenses. York is often called the most haunted city in England — with ghost stories stretching back centuries. From Roman soldiers to medieval monks, York’s ghosts are woven into the city’s history.

Excellent walks as always, hope your well Alice not been able to keep up as regularly the last 6 months or so, hope you’ve had a great weekend, and have a great week ahead.
🙋♀️
Have a good day Alice.
England at it's finest. Sometimes i ask myself why people are making trips to far away destinations when they have their smartphone anyway the whole time in front of their face.
Thank you, indeed! 🫖
Hello Alice
السماء غائمة وممطرة والأجواء ممتعة ومنعشة فيديو جميل للغاية..! شكرآ لك 🪸😊🦆

All the buildings look historical
This looks like it’s going to be a very entertaining and beautiful walk, Alice.

Harry Poter movie.
I’ll be visiting York in November. I’m so excited. I’m gonna save this video to use as my guide . Thanks so much for posting it.
❤️🤩😍💖🥰🇬🇧👍
Wow! This is a fantastic place. I’m watching on a 86” screen tv. I must definitely visit York. Thanks for filming 1:08:40 this. 👍
Walking Alice, York is such a beautiful town with a lot of historic building. Love Shambles and York Minister. Thank you for sharing!
Hi Alice! What a wonderful gift you gave me today! The whole walk was wonderful, but I cried tears of joy seeing the Paddington Bench! Bless you on each walk you take. I am grateful for all of them.
Your afternoon tea at Betty's Café looked truly delicious 🤩. Even if the scones weren't perfect, the other delicacies certainly made up for it. I'd love to send you some of my homemade scones, but they wouldn't survive such a long journey, as they always have to be freshly baked and best eaten lukewarm. York truly is a magical place. This city, with its small, old, crooked houses, could be in Disneyland, but York is real and steeped in history. It's almost unbelievable how old this city is, originally founded by the Romans. I really enjoyed this walk. I wish you a nice day and look forward to the next adventure with you .❤
내가 사랑하는 영국 여행 경험을 공유해 주셔서 감사합니다!

Lovely video as always, thank you, but the prices in that Bettys Tea rooms, were utterly obscene and ridiculous!!
Alice 😢Hmm, I was late watching your video, even though I couldn't wait to watch your video, but I'm happy and satisfied that I can finally sit back and enjoy walking with you, Alice, YORK, I don't think you've ever had this in England, have you, have I forgotten? 😁, But of course I can enjoy your trip Alice, the place is nice, even when you walk during the day, but the temperature is 16°, not hot, but cool Alice?, is that the location of the Harry Potter film?I like it, Alice, thank you for the journey, be successful and always stay healthy and God bless you.
Total medieval, e me lembrou muuito o Beco Diagonal do filme do Harry Potter .❤🎉
Yippy!……1st time one of your walks has popped up in ages, not sure why, as I'm subscribed, but when I saw little Alice In Wonderland chasing the familiar White Rabbit, I went "YEY!" 😊😅
Have been there before, it's really a nice and quiet little town, thank you.
Thanks Dear Alice, beautiful place! I love Your videos.
Magnifiiiiique York!!!thank you……👍👍👍
жизнь – ад и небытие
I hope this video shows some little Yorkie rippers (Yorkshire Terrier). I call them rippers because they are tough little furry kids. I miss my Yorkie boy. R.I.P. my baby.
Yet another Great slow paced walk, letting us take in the beauty of these old streets, shops, the colours (mild pastel shades), the shop signages, the old simple yet most elegant architecture of those humble abodes & the grandiose architecture of the huge cathedrals etc….
Cool walk! Thank you ❤❤❤❤❤❤
