that’s a shimano biopace chainring, it’s meant to be an oval. The theory was that oval chainrings lead to more balanced power delivery, effectively increasing gear ratio during downstroke and decreasing it when you’re not providing power. Some people still swear by them.
It’s biopace, it’s not supposed to be round
Some chainrings are ovular, it supposedly helps with leverage while pedaling.

It’s called an adjustment
Biopace is horrible, but modern ovals are great.
Bringing me back to my childhood in the early 90s. It’s called Biopace and designed with oval chainrings.
Thats normal for biopace shimano
