I ride an aluminium Stumpy Evo and recently rented my rear rim so the point where it doesn't hold air tubeless anymore. I'm considering replacing the rear wheel, but don't really know anything about wheels. I get 20% off on NOBL wheelsets (not individuals) and 30% off with Crankbrothers. Looking for recommendations / solutions. Is it wierd to run a carbon rear wheen with aluminium front wheel? I'm not looking to spend over 1k on carbon wheels, but if the upgrade is worth it I would be interested in carbon rims. I don't know much about hubs either, I usually run the stock ones that come with my bikes and have greased them because I like them silent.

  1. Big fan of my non carbon Industry Nine trail S “101” wheels. You could probably get an entire set with hubs for like $600. Beat the shit out of them for at least two years with very little issues. Been with me on the podium and through some very heavy slams. I ride trail and cross country on a SWorks Stumpjumper for reference.

I have the Roval HD’s and they are awesome.

I have some Nobl TR32’s on my ss and they are also good.

Imba membership gets you expoertvoice access with Nobl. I think the discount is 30%

  3. Chromag ba30s have been bullet proof for me so far this season I’m very happy with them

  4. I would recommend staying away from carbon wheels. The ride comfort will worsen as trail chatter increases. There are numerous videos on YT noting how carbon wheels affect the ride comfort, with some reviewers writing it off as needing to make adjust to their suspension that was already tuned before they swapped to carbon wheels for their review. Funny!

And carbon wheels cost more, so more reason to stick with alloys.

Regarding the hubs, just make sure the new wheelset fits your axles and the freehub fits your cassette. Typically, a good set of wheels comes with decent hubs.

Completely love my TR37’s laced with DT Swiss 240’s. I did a TR41 set for my emtb but I have Trek’s crabon rear wheel on my other bikes. Nobl offers lifetime warranty and Trek offerrs 2 year warrranty. I broke a spoke and scratched the rim on the Trek rear wheel and they sent me a new wheel. I now buy Trek carbon for my new bikes.
