Hello! I’m pretty new to the biking community and am looking to buy my first pannier. I found a backpack pannier that I LOVE but it’s technically made for a motorcycle. I wanted one that’s leather and will last me for 20+ years I.e can be repaired by a cobbler if necessary. I want something very very high quality. Also hoping to find something that converts to a backpack or an easy to carry bag as I don’t want to leave it on my bike.

Could someone possibly give me their thoughts on whether or not this might work on a bicycle? It doesn’t seem super big and looks like it just needs a place on the rack to clip to, but I’m super new to this.

Other suggestions are also super welcome. I really appreciate the help!

Is it really neccessary to have a leather pannier? A gazillion of people have had tveir Ortlieb and Vaude panniers for twenty years. They can be repaired, are water- and dustproof and can be locked to the bike. A leather pannier will weigh a lot, won’t withstand weeks of rain as well and the way the one linked it is fastened to the rack looks like it will slip and slide, which would drive me nuts.
I am all for quality and love stuff being longlived, but I would buy an Ortlieb or Vaude. They are made in Germany and nearly climate neutral.

Anyways, ortlieb sells the parts to repair panniers. You can also be creative and order those repair parts to DIY a bag mount.
