So my friend is looking at finally getting a bike.
We looked at a few bikes at a local store but they were somewhat limited on what they could offer. They showed us a fairly old Schwinn step through hybrid and a new reid comfort bike (I think this one). And both seemed alright but we weren't sure.
We think a hybrid makes the most sense, but that might just be because I have one and neither of us really has experience with bikes besides it and like childhood mountain bikes.
It would mostly be used for city riding to get from place to place and shopping, but we live in a fairly hilly area and occasional trail/off-road riding is likely.
Repairability is extremely important, and ideally the bike is something that will last a long time with moderate care.
Prefer to be under $500 but willing to go up to $700
She's 5'4" 190lbs, average fitness so the bike has to be available in a smaller size and blue isn't required but would break a tie.

Hybrids are great for city riding and getting around. “Comfort bikes” aka beach cruisers can do the same sort of thing to an extent, but they’re not set up quite so well for longer rides or if you want to use the bike for fitness.
In terms of hybrids under 500, this is a pretty good deal in the sale if you have any nearby stores

Otherwise you could look into something like a Liv Alight, Specialized Sirrus, Cannondale Quick, dozens of manufacturers do similar bikes really. Just a question of whatever your local bike stores carry.
