Cycling Vigilante Clashes with Driver in London Road Rage Incident

Michael Van Erp — better known online as Cycling Mikey — has sparked fresh controversy after filming himself pushing his bicycle into a car during a heated confrontation in Hammersmith, London.

The 52-year-old self-styled road safety crusader blocked traffic on Paddenswick Road, claiming a driver was ignoring a “No Entry” sign near roadworks. In an expletive-filled standoff, Van Erp stood in front of the car, forcing it to reverse, before pushing his bike into the vehicle as it tried to move forward.

The incident, uploaded to his own YouTube channel, shows him continuing to block other drivers, shouting for them to turn back. Van Erp, who has built a reputation for filming and reporting motorists using their phones — claiming over 2,000 busts since 2006 — has previously caught high-profile names like Frank Lampard and Chris Eubank.

But the cyclist isn’t without controversy himself: last year, his own helmet-cam caught him running a red light at a pedestrian crossing.

A controversial vigilante cyclist best known for infuriating drivers across London and reporting motorists to the police has filmed himself pushing his bicycle into a car, Michael Vanerp, known by his YouTube name Cycling Mikey, uploaded a 5-minute exploitative laden clip as he argued with a driver attempting to pass road works on Pattonwick Road in Hammersmith. Standing directly in front of the vehicle blocking its path, Mr. Vanerp argued there was a no entry sign, adding, “What is that sign back there? You have to go back now.” Very naughty. As the car reversed and other motors emerged from the other direction, however, the driver didn’t seem to be deterred by the vigilante as he attempted to enter the road once again cycling. Mikey quickly pushes his bike into the road in the car, smashing it into several pieces as the vehicle drives off. He then continued to block the road with his body to prevent another driver passing by. “No f off, go back,” he yelled at another driver. “What do you think you’re doing? Go back.” Vanerp, 52, rides through London with his GoPro as he attempts to catch drivers on their phones before confronting them on video and taking their number plate. The road safety warrior claims to have caught more than 2,000 offenders since first strapping on his helmet cam back in 2006 with his motoring victims, including Frank Lampard and Chris Eubank. But the cyclist, who works as carer and roller skating instructor, was last year caught out by his own cameras as he pedled over a London crossing despite the lights being red. Mr. Vanerp told the Telegraph, “I did not throw the bike at his car. I did not go out with the intention of a collision. I just wanted to block him, but his unexpectedly savage acceleration and my slightly late reaction meant we ended up on a collision course.” The cyclist vigilante regularly records and reports incidents, as well as keeping track of their eventual conclusion. Mr. Vanerp routinely catches motorists committing road offenses, including using their mobile phones behind the wheel, and even once caught a driver inhaling nitrous oxide. After recording, he sends his videos to the Metropolitan Police. And after they take action, he posts his videos onto his YouTube channel. According to his ex account, he has reported 2,280 drivers since 2019, which has resulted in 2,749 penalty points on $165,000 in fines, as well as 35 disqualifications from driving. Among those who have been reported by the cyclist are Guy Richie, as well as Chris Eubank. After being caught by Mr. Van Herp driving his Range Rover through Hyde Park. The film director was given six points on license, a fine as well as a six-month driving ban. Eubank was handed three points and a fine after being caught running a red light in a bid to flee from cycling mic in September 2021 after the vigilante challenged him for trying to connect to his hands-free phone system. Apparently, he said he was worried that I was a stalker, Mr. Van reflected in an interview with the Daily Mail. Although, I can’t imagine Chris Eubank really being scared of anyone, can you? However, last year, Mr. Vaner also disobeyed the rules of the road, filming himself cycling through a red light in Belgravia.

  1. Unfortunately his ego overpowered any cognitive thought. He is an antagonist, obviously car in wrong place, he should have just recorded it.He has thrown himself on a bonnet of a car lost that case. He knew a child was in the car to do this was reckless and dangerous.

  2. Someone needs to report mikey to the police for this, get him some points for willful obstuction of the highway section 137 of the highways act 1980 (fine up to £1000) causing danger to road user, road traffic act 1988 section 22A (can lead to imprisonment)

  3. He did not just cross the road like a pedestrian, he had no intention to cross the road.He deliberately rushed out to stop the car, unlike anyone normal and just record it ,king mickey decided to physically attempt to stop the car. He is a antagonist last year lost a case throwing his body onto someone's bonnet, he twisted narrative saying he was ran into. Thank God the judge saw it for what it was.
