One day I think Alberine will be a wonder of the world. Let me explain. Most stone cities of Scotland and the UK are built from sandstone or sometimes limestone. But Aberdine is built from granite, one of the strongest, heaviest, hardest stones that exists in the world. The entire city is built like a castle with walls 2 to 4 foot thick just to support the weight of granite above. It’s one of my favorite architectural cities on Earth. Most of the gray granite came from Rubislaw Quarry, which was opened in the 1740s and closed in 1971. One of the biggest man-made holes in Europe, now filled with water. And the pink and red granite came from other parts to the northeast. So why I wonder the world? Because granite walls are near invincible. It’s a granite fortress. When they’re cleaned, the buildings look brand new because granite does not degrade. 5,000 years from now, when all the limestone, sandstone, and brick has turned to dust, Aberdine will still be standing. A wonder of the ancient world.
