did you know in the film Victory one of the scenes in the film shows the moment when the German National Anthem is played in the stadium before the start of the match the scene also reveals the different reactions of the German officers who are present at the event according to their branch of service and their allegiance to Hitler the officers who belong to the SS are wearing black uniforms and mostly perform the Nazi salute the officers who belong to the Luft wafa are wearing gray uniforms and mostly perform the standard military salute this contrast between the two types of salutes is based on historical facts as long as the film takes place before July 1944 when Hitler ordered that all members of the Vermont should adopt the Nai salute as the only form of salutation

  1. Yes, it was after the "July Plot" to assassinate Hitler, that Wehrmacht troops were required to swear personal allegiance to "Der Fuehrer" and give the Nazi salute.

  2. Grey was never the Luftwaffe Colors.
The Luftwaffe had always a light blue color while the Navy had a deeper blue and the Wehrmacht had the Grey color.

Also many Military Officers rejected the Nazi Salut as the common Military Salute till the end and the Regime nenver fully managed to force it into the military even till the End.

  3. It makes me gag, as most higher up Army and Luftwaffe officers were unrepentant nazis. It is a fallacy to believe all German atrocities were committed by SS, SD and Gestapo. When I look at the German General Staff, and it's conduct in WW1, and after it, I can honestly say the Germans would have been the same, without Hitler.

  6. Is that Putin in a SS uniform (0:19)? Might be, he was much thinner, he wasn't bringing in the billion$ back when this movie was made. He was barely getting by in the KGB, shaking down East Germans at that point in time.

  7. Why did you see "Luftwaffe" (the Air Armed Force)? Indeed, the officers in gray in the video belong to the "Heer" (Army), part of the "Wehrmacht" (ironically: "Defensive Force"), together with "Luftwaffe" and the Navy ("Kriegsmarine").

  8. Partly accurate:
The Luftwaffe had blue uniforms, the Army (Heer) hat grey uniforms (so-called field-grey colour).
SS uniforms were black, but Waffen-SS (the armed part of the SS) had a kind of grey as well.
And the Wehrmacht used the traditional salute as depicted here.
Wehemacht being the name of all armed forces together – Army (Heer), Navy (Kriegsmarine) and Luftwaffe (Air Force).
The Waffen-SS was a separate branch. Technically under command of the Wehrmacht.

  9. The German salutes are not 100% correct. The hand is usually from horizontal up to 30° rotated inwards. The opposite does usually not see the palm.

  10. The first thing you see is the drum major handling the mace in the British way. In Germany the left hand never leaves the belt buckle and the orb is only on top if it's a funeral or the end of the Großer Zapfenstreich – also a drum major is only used for a Fife and drum corps. A normal military band without an additional drum corps would be let by a conductor.

  11. Deutschland had a good history for atleast 1000 years before the pig hitler came into power without being elected. They even helped America develop its first continental army to defeat the English and gain independence.

  12. Completely inaccurate because some SS wearing post-1938 gray uniform and doing a military salute and another ones wearing pre-1938 black uniform and doing the Nazi salute. This is nonsense.

  13. This is all historically inaccurate…

Different types of salutes were used for different occasions. The fact that Hitler ordered members of the Wehrmacht to perform the salute is true, however it still wasn't based on branch.

What decided the use of the salute was headdress. If you were wearing a hat/helmet, you would perform a normal military salute. If you were unhatted, you would do the 'Nazi Salute'. Also, Wehrmacht were encouraged to do the salute way before 1944. There's an early color film that portrays this really well. Wish I remember what the name of the movie was. Valkyrie also performs this version of the salute too.
