Hello,
Complete noob here but wanting to start cycling to eventually try my hands on an Ironman. Due to time constraints almost always take my kids with me when I train so the obvious way for me to go faster would be to ditch the 40kg chariot..
I usually have this setup, my tyres are approximately 2cm wide and I suppose is allround tyres fit for gravel.
And I have a straight handlebar.
Is it possible to swap handlebars to a road bike variant (drop bars?) and maybe go for some thinner tyres or am I just looking for trouble?
I don’t really have the money to spend 500-1000. Eur on a used bike at the moment so if I can cheap my way through and still get some improvement that would be great.
As it is now for my easy rides I average maybe 18km/h, I would probably average quite a lot higher if it wasn’t for the chariot but I imagine swapping tyres would do some for the speed and the handlebars is mostly due to me getting some wrist pain now after a week cycling 60km

You could try inner bar ends so you can change the position of your hands while riding. A drop bar would require different levers which are quite expensive
I would save the money and just buy a second rim brake road bike for now. You could buy one for the cost of changing bars, shifters, bar tape, brake bleed, etc. not to mention it will never comfortable. 3 guesses why I know this.
