Police body camera and helicopter footage reveals how a stolen iPhone 16 Pro Max was tracked in live time after it was snatched from a victim’s hand on in Whitechapel, East London.

Within minutes of the victim making the report, Met Police officers were in pursuit — assisted by a police helicopter who coordinated the chase and directed specialist motorcycle units to intercept and make the arrest, ensuring they will face justice for a phone theft.

The suspect, riding a high-powered Surron e-bike, weaved dangerously through central London’s busy streets — from Tower Hamlets through Islington, Westminster, Marble Arch, and across Waterloo Bridge — riding against traffic, mounting pavements, and putting pedestrians at risk.

Despite attempts to evade detection — including ditching a blue jacket mid-pursuit — officers stayed locked on. With our helicopter’s eyes in the sky and interceptors on the ground, the suspect didn’t stand a chance of escape. The pursuit came to an end on Webber Street, Waterloo where the suspect was surrounded by police motorcylces and he was swiftly arrested.

A search of the suspect revealed a roll of foil suspected of being used in an attempt to block phone tracking signals and a quantity of suspected Class B drugs.

Confronted with overwhelming evidence in court, the man pleaded guilty to multiple offences including robbery, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, and possession of drugs. The stolen phone was recovered.
