First coffee ride back in the UK, the Chai latte tasted good! Not 100% recovered yet still feeling a little tired but getting back to it.

Hello there everybody. It is two weeks and one day since I finished the tour to France challenge and we’re currently in a rush cuz we’re going to be late going to a club ride. Kyle’s trying to find a Garmin. Well, I’ve been silly and I didn’t charge him. He didn’t charge his Garmin. He’s got a spare one. Spare’s on 2%. It’s going to last. What’s What percentage you mean? We’re on 16. 16%. We’re doing 40 miles. Might last. It might last. Oh, you got a panini as well. Yeah. Anyway, sorry a bit of chaotic intro cuz we’re in a bit of a rush. But yeah, it’s been 2 weeks and one day since I finished the challenge and we’re going to a club ride today. Last week I did go to a little club ride with some women. There was only three of us, so four of us, so it wasn’t too overwhelming. But today there might be quite a lot of people there. So I’m feeling a bit nervous actually because I’m tired. Well, not really tired, but obviously my body’s tired, so I’m probably not going to be as speedy as usual. But um we’re going to go in the medium group, not the speed demon group, and we’ll see how it goes. And Chester’s here. He’s had a walk already this morning. He’s not happy cuz I got him up early for a walk. And then we’re going on a walk this afternoon as well, aren’t we? With my friend. Yes, we are. Oh, what have you been doing, Carl? He’s been in the bushes. Yeah, he’s got a little We’ve got a new gate now, though, so we can’t escape. He’s got little bits or look in his snout. You keep up. Anyway, we’re going to be late, so we better go. And Kyle’s got his Paris jersey on from who was it from, Kyle? Uh, I like to move it. the man that always sings I like to move it move it with us. He owns the bike shop in Paris and he’s from Madagascar so we always sing like to move it move it which is off the Madagascar film. Anyway, 40 miles on the cards. It’s a hilly ride. So mascot’s ready. Reminded me of Tom. Got this on the top of Tom. Let’s roll. We’re on our way to the club ride. And I’ve just realized I’ve done a few rides since I’ve been back but no cafe ride. So, this will be my first UK cafe ride back in the UK. That didn’t come out right. So, yeah. And it’s a cafe I’ve never been to before. So, looking forward to it. But I did have a little sneaky look at it online. I don’t think it’s a sort that does a chai latte, unfortunately. But it’s okay. We’re riding again tomorrow. So, I’ll make sure to get a chai in then. Anyway, better go cuz Kyle’s on speed demon mood. Right. We’ve made it to the start of the club ride. We’re on time. Were we on time? We just not left yet. So, it’s 38 miles, which isn’t too bad, but it is hilly. So, we’ll see how the legs are coping after. We’re going in group two, aren’t we? Group one. No thanks. That’s speed demons. Oh, you’re going in the Speed Demon group, are you? Me? Me? Yeah. We’re going group one, aren’t we? Speed demons. You’re group one. Speed demon group. Yeah. Oh, you’re right. What group should we go in then? There’s Lee Tim over. How fast is group one? I don’t know. Amy, just think about your legs. What do you want to do? I knew this was going to happen cuz you kept saying all day. Yes. Definitely group two. Split up even. What’s happening? Should we go in that one then? But I might. Will I be okay in there? Are you sure? No. Okay, I’m coming then. If I get dropped, just leave me. Which one are we doing? The queen stage. The queen stage. Yeah. Rolling along back on the home lane. Darisha, we love you. Back on the patch. Back on the old patch. I actually feel a bit scared. I’ve asked Kyle to come next to me cuz I’ve not ridden in a group for over eight weeks. So, I feel a bit like just not used to it. But I I’ll soon pick it up again. Just weird having other cyclists around me. But I’ll take the windbreak. I tell you that. Seven days of smiles. Yeah. I’m smiling behind you, mate. You’re a nice wind shelter. Well, we’re How many miles in are we? Seven. Seven miles over. We’ve had a mechanical. What’s actually happened? Probably like 5 miles in. Oh, puncture. Oh, surprise to be fair. I did all the whole front with no puncture on one pair of tires. Mental. Got fresh ones on today. Put them on last night. Yeah. I did get in a bit of a tease putting them on, Kyle. You did get in a bit of a tease. Yeah, cuz these wheels are quite hard to put tires on. But I did do it in the end, but it took a lot of lot of elbow grease. Oh, the other group have gone past us now. Darn it. They’ll be in the cafe queue first. Oh, god damn. Oh, yeah. What? Oh, by the way, the Canadian people that came out to see us at the end, those walnuts they get, well, peacans, everything they give us. Those maple peacans. Oh, I opened them last night. They’re the best thing I’ve ever tasted in my life. Taste anything so good. It’s like I don’t know if you got cinnamon or what, but they were good. No, no one’s farting. It’s just a pump. Excuse me. You all right? Electric pumps a bit rude. Not a body pump. Van van. I always, you know, on a group ride, I always think, you know, like a car coming from behind, I say car up and then for car in front, I say car down. We learned it from slo the way we say it. Car up for the group and car down. But Lee, what do you say? He’s not listening. He’s in conversation. Lee, do you say car up for one in front or one behind? Um, I learned from you lot. So, I say up if it’s coming from the back. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Down. And then down if it’s from the front. Yeah. Yeah, I do. There’s a way that I remember it, but I’m not going to say I know the way. It’s rude. It’s coming up the down your throat. Yeah, very rude. It’s coming down though. But other other clubs that I ride with, they say car up cuz it’s up ahead. So now it’s all confusing. Usually European the other group I ride with, they say car up if it’s coming up ahead. So then now it confuses me. If a car is coming up the hill and it’s coming towards you, that’s car up. Wait, now I’m confused about what I say. Wait, I say car down. Sorry. They say car down cuz it’s I don’t know. Yeah. Car front, car back. I’m confused. Yeah, you’re not sensible. Just shout and everyone looks around and you figure out where it is. Here comes the next group. Oh, great. We We’re group three now. Oh, right. Oh, we got to burn baby burner. Burn baby burn. I don’t mind a hill too far. compared to the Alps that go on for 26k. Although the hills here are a lot shorter and steeper, so I’m not sure whether I prefer just like one long gradual climb rather than lots of little up and downs. I think I prefer one long gradual climb. I feel a bit like weird riding in a group. Not anxious, but a little bit on edge cuz I’m just not used to it. So, I’m just staying at the back where I feel safe and I can observe climbing again. It is really nice to be back on home roads, but I am missing the Alps and the Pyrenees. It was just so beautiful there. And I want to go back and like have more time there rather than pass through. But going to have to go because I’m struggling to breathe. It’s a burn. Oh, 10% now. Keep on spinning. We’ll get there. Hello, sheepy. I still want to say bonjour. So pretty up here. We made it. That climb felt a little bit harder than normal. So maybe I’m not as recovered as I thought. It’s only been two weeks. So the only good thing is my heart rate didn’t go up today on other rides. It’s like my heart rate’s not been going up very high, which is a sign that your body’s tired. But today it’s been going up. So, I’m getting there. Just got to make sure I don’t do too much too soon. But yeah, right, we’re at the cafe. Put the bike back over there. But Steve, the I think it would have been Steve that reserved these craft tables. Um, and the drinks are looking good from what I’ve seen other people having. So, let’s go and have a look. Excited actually. Now, Kyle, I don’t think they’ll do chai, but No, they don’t do a chai. Hang on a minute. What’s this guy? We need to We need to see if it’s a powder or a syrup, though. If it’s a syrup, it’s a no. But if it’s a powder, it’s Yes, cuz syrup is just like the coffee. Let’s see. We We’ll ask the question. It’s a powder. I can see it. It’s over there. Just that pink tub over there cuz I know I know I’m a child. You are. That is drink me chai. And that’s a sugary one, but it’s a nice one. So, and I need I need the sugar while I’m riding. Yeah, cuz I do actually like chai tea. He’s going to go for the chai. Right, the chai is in. How you going? It’s a good one. Hello. You’re right. Thank you. We’re all here having our snack. But me and K have got cake today. Have you done this route before? I’m actually really surprised you didn’t get Yeah, it is a bit tough. It is nearly. I felt that walking once you’ve done that one. Yeah, that’s a tough climb. I’m going to I thought I was going to get off, but you know what? We I walked up there a few times. Yeah, Kyle W that actually the first ever ride. Oh, it wasn’t it was we second rides Kyle did on the bike up that climb and I had to walk. It’s tough. It’s the start bit though, is it? Once you get through that bottom bit, it does even off a little bit. Well, how’s your latte? Try and like, you know, maintain your breathing, aren’t you? Yeah. Thinking of breathing. Yeah. Yeah. Once you get rid of me, you’re all right. Sometimes it can like feel like you’re having a bit of like, you know, if when you’re breathing so hard on a climb, you can get a bit panicky, but then you have to try and like slow down. That’s it. I was just trying to maintain the yoga bit. Deep breath. Deep breath. At one with the body. How’s your very good surprising? I’m loving the oatmeal. Oh, well. Trying to train it. Not being silly. Not being silly. I’m still eating plenty, aren’t I? Cuz I’ve been watching that I’m maintaining. Yeah. And I’ve just got that on itself. Lovely. Right. When we were in there, we noticed that there did these little loyalty cards. So I thought, hang on a minute. If me and Kyle get stamp and then pass it back to so many of us, the eighth person in the queue will get a free drink, which turned out to be this fella. So what did you go for? I went for the Dora tea. Dora tea. You should have gone for the most expensive one. I’ve made my mind up already, so I thought tea and like you know, sausage Oh yeah, that’s going to be jealous of that. Yeah. So anyway, then now we’ve got this one’s got three on, but I could see this fell over here eyeing it up and you wanted to. Oh, thank you very much. I’d like to thank everybody who’s contributed towards these three stamps. Thank you. Four more drinks. You got a free one. No, actually five more. Sorry, that was that was my math’s going wrong. Do you know what really gives me a kick in life? A good bargain. You like saving money. I just really I love bit saving money. No, I love I have loads I have loads of these little cards. everywhere I go out there with the finance members in France. You can’t beat a loyalty card. I think we just adapted to a new life so quickly. Yeah, we do. And having that like all those weeks of riding around France where your pace has changed and your needs have changed. Yeah. And then you come back and you’re just like, “Oh man, the world’s so fast. So many things to different things to think about.” Yeah. I just say when I went in a car after 4 weeks, I was like, “Wa, it’s too fast.” But yeah, no more almond croissants. Jud and bakery. Hey Kyle, that banana in your back pocket. I think it’s been getting more brown every pedal. Yeah, I think we’ll have a sweat infested banana bread made when we get home. Dirty banana. Do you want a piece? No, I’m good. A salty banana bread. I can go in your shake. It’s not going in my milkshake. You can go in yours. Right then. Well, we’ve been back from the ride for quite a few hours. We did do an end of ride video, but somebody, aka the man behind the camera, didn’t press record, so you’ve now got me in my PJs. I’ve just devoured one of the best curries I’ve ever made. I did lick the bowl. That’s why it’s so clean. And I don’t have any regrets about that to be honest cuz waste not want my eyes. Anyway, ride stats for you. 42.04 miles. We went up 3,645 ft. So quite hilly, not too bad. 2 hours and 30 minutes in the saddle. Oh, and 56 seconds. And average speed 16.7 mph. Average heart rate 145, which I think is two. Yeah, zone 2. But my max went to 181, pushing up that climb. So that’s a good sign. Yeah, that’s a good sign that I’m recovering. I definitely found it harder up the hills than normal today, but that’s to be expected. And it was really nice to be back out on the local roads, but I do miss the Alps. So, Chass just eating his dinner. There’s a little derriè. Bit of French for you. Just looked at you as you said that. Dair. Daddy. Um, oh, and I’ve got some exciting news which is really random, but Just Given have awards. I didn’t know about this. and I got an email basically to say there’ve been 18,000 nominations and I’ve made it to the top four in my category which is mind over miles or as I like to say mind over maloney. So the voting opens on the 11th of August which I think will be the day I put this video out. Um so yeah, if you want to vote for me then you can but no pressure. There might be someone else in the category you think they deserve it more. So yeah but if you want to vote that’d be nice. Anything to add, Kyle? There sat there looking at me lovingly. I was actually looking at you quite lovely then dangling next to you. Yeah, I don’t know why I’m looking lovely. I’ve been busy working on the extension actually today. You have? Um, do you want to show an update? Um, I can talk and update cuz I can’t be able to get up to be honest with you. I’ll show you the update if you want. No, no, it’s okay. Basically, the roof is on. Mhm. Timber work. That is woodwork for people that don’t understand timber. And the block work is now up on the inside. So now I’ve just got to finish the brick work, which is external skin. And then it’s ready for roof tiles. So then it’s going to be water. Basically means nothing to me. But I will I will show Oh, you can show it. Yeah, I will show you cuz I think a visual is more interesting. Oh, that’s a bit of I always make a double portion of curry. So ignore the floor. Ignore the what? Ignore the floor cuz that is So the floor is obviously needs that’s going to get screed. This is what Kyle did. And then Kyle’s mates did the roof. Not mates, but you know. Well, they are mates. I used to work. In fact, I used to work with them. Oh, your mates. It’s not free, unfortunately. No, even mates don’t do things for free. Oh, no, no, no. Not when it’s your job. And that will be a big window. Yeah, they did mention that today saying that is a very big window. Is it? It’s the biggest window you’ve ever seen. This is the biggest window I’ve ever built on house. Yeah. Is that going to cost a lot? And I’ve built a lot of houses. How much does that window cost? Not even sure, but it’s wide. I’ve got acne. Oh, yeah. By the way, to the man that emailed me telling me that he watched my tour to France and he noticed I have acne. Thanks for that. Didn’t realize. So, yeah. So, basically, it’s been ready for roof tiles. It does go all the way around. Yeah. Well, I know it goes I hope it goes all the way around. Yeah. But, yeah. So, we’ve been this last two weeks we’ve been not probably resting as much as we should to be fair. Carl went back to work and he started training. is trying to do is doing an FTP builder on Ruby 6 week program. So he’s been getting up at 5 every morning and waking me up for a change. But although I’ve quite enjoyed the routine. Yeah, I’ve enjoyed the routine. And then he’s doing a video about that, aren’t you? Yeah. So that’ll be out in 6 weeks. And I’ve been redecorating. I’ve been painting ceilings and painting cupboards and trying to be busy really cuz I The reason why I was going in France is because you know I’m like I get really agitated. I’m not in routine. Yeah. You like a routine, don’t you? Your routine. I’m really rigid. You got very rigid about your recovery routine actually for me. Yeah, I did. No, I didn’t. I think Laura didn’t know what would hit her when you was like right recovery shake chang when I’m in this training now I’m training I’m very serious about that. You didn’t even have a cake today. Didn’t have But I did get you a treat from the shop. What? Oh, and these are these are the walnut thing peacans that I was mentioning earlier that the people from Canada got us. Oh, I’m going to send them a message. Handful more like mouthful. They are soon, aren’t they? Oh, and oh, my hand just cramped. We found, unfortunately, didn’t get to come to France. Kyle found him in the garage. In fact, wash his dishes. Piccolo. This is my mascot that I normally have, but he was in the garage while we were in France, unfortunately. Anyway, time to wash the pots, kick back, and relax. So, thank you so much for watching. TT the FN Tata for now. Goodbye. 54.

  1. Recovery suits you well, you looked good and relaxed on your ride and I’m glad you found your chai at the cafe; the new addition is looking good and hats off to Kyle’s building skills and heck the grass was in fact greener on the other side:-)!

  2. Agreed on the car calls. It is up your…. And down your throat. That is the European way. Lots of UK clubs do it the wrong way.
