I'm visiting my old university friends for the month and decided that I would buy a bike when I got here instead of bringing one. I definitly got a bit carried away with the spending but am super happy with how its turned out so far!

Info:

  • Bike: 2000 Rocky Mountain Oxygen Race (The frame is made from Easton Elite tubing and is super light. The bike stock came in around 25lb/11.3kg total.)
  • Wheels: Mavic Crossmax SL (very happy these were on marketplace for a really good price, they are basically brand new and are crazy light.)
  • Tires: Continental Race King 2.2 setup tubeless (this was an absolute pain in the ass to do with a floor pump, I ended up using a tube to seat one side of the tire which did the trick. These rims really hold onto the bead so my thumbs were killing me after this.)
  • Handle bars: Velo Orange Crazy bars (I stole these off another one of my bikes and am very happy with them on this build, I really like the extra hand positions on longer rides.)
  • Brakes: Shimano MT200 (I bought these in advance on aliexpress for 70$ CAD, had to use zip ties to hold the hydrolines till I come up with a better solution.)
  • Groupset: currently its a basic 3×9 deore setup (It didnt come with the stock XT stuff but I planned to eventually put a 1x clutched setup on this bike anyway.)
  • Fork: Marzocchi Bomber Z3 M80 (Surprisingly smooth for its age, but is very heavy. I plan on getting a carver XC QR carbon fork for this which will make it even lighter.)

I obsessed over this bike and the build for about a month before the actual trip and got really lucky the bike did not sell before I got there.
