Before we had kids, Jon and I spent 3 weeks camping through Europe. This was the age of not having a device with Google Maps in your pocket, and so sadly when we were in Salzburg we couldn’t find the meet up location for the Fraulein Maria bicycle tour and it broke my little Sound of Music loving heart to miss that tour. Granted, we did take a bus tour and got to see all the beautiful spots from the movie and from the story in real life. Fast forward 15 years and we are here with our 3 children and we have Google Maps in our pockets. Yesterday my dreams came true and we were able to join the bicycle tour for 3.5 hours of biking through Salzburg and the dreamy countryside surrounding the city. I tried hard not to be that annoying super fan having all the answers to all the questions on the tour, but Jon told me I was anyway. 🤓 We definitely give the tour ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and recommend it to anyone visiting Salzburg, fan of the movie or not!
The tour provides an exploration of the city and surrounding countryside in a way that would be impossible to do on your own, through the lense of Sound of Music filming locations. It works with young children through a tag-along bike extension. Just be prepared to bike for several hours!
