Hello gravel hive mind, I will be installing new gravel bar tape this week. I have been using the gravel bt from ergon but it’s very worn down and I’m not impressed with the durability at all.
I’ll be installing the ciclovation grind touch continental and it’s a tad thinner.
I’ve tried the gel pads from ergonomics once but found the to be too bulky so I was thinking of using some of the ergon tape on the tops and drops (Ritchey venturemax v2).
I’ve also read some people wrapped an old tube cut open aeound the bar first.
Any experiences and recommendations from you guys?

  1. Bike fit, hands should lightly touch the bars. Yup good tape takes the buzz out of the bars. But true comfort comes from being in a comfortable position. Gloves help with grip and a bit of cushioning. But key take away is fit. I’d also suggest less tyre pressures make a significant improvement in trail chatter. Wider 50 mm makes a lot of difference.

  2. Least-Donkey9178 on

Double wrap your bars. Use an inexpensive foam or cork tape as base then wrap with a tape that feels good to you. If double wrap is too thick cut pieces of base tape and tape in line with bars in the areas you want more cushion then wrap.

  3. I’m liking the BBB gravel ribbon tape. With and without the gel pads both setup been pretty good. Feels good and good grip strength with gloves (always put a glove on).

  4. I’ve used the Fizik gel inserts (but only on the drops) with the LizardSkins 3.2mm thick bar tape and been happy while it not being too thick.

Some people also double wrap and using a cheaper tape on the inside.
