event 660 – 09/08/2025
I ran Bolton Parkrun in 22:47 and finished 17th.
It is great to be back home. It is great to meet people who appreciate my video.
It is great being back home, my car is broken down. It has been one hell of a ride going to London (did not run Parkrun), York, Liverpool, Manchester, Edinburgh. Taking my in-laws everywhere and making the journey to England as memorable as possible.
I promised to visit them in South Korea next summer.
Sorry. Spin it out. decided to torture yourself today then? Yeah, I did. Car’s broke down. Oh, is it? Yeah. So, what’s wrong with it? Oh, master cylinder clutch. Oh, that’s that’s a pain in the ass. A master. Yeah, there’s a master and a slave in it. Which is that the master in the clutch assembly? Yeah. Yeah, that’s a big job then. Yeah, you got to change your clutch. So, yeah. So, they’ve done the clutch and they’ve done that. And I said, well, it was due to happen. I did drive all the way to Edinburgh. I did drive all the way from London. It could have been a lot worse. I could have broke down in London. Or I could have broke down in Edinburgh out. So, we’re l I feel like I’m lucky that I just broke down in Watton. Yeah. Worst places to break down. But I wish I didn’t break down at the lights, though. Did you get any warning it was going to happen? No, it just it just broke down. And they did what my in-laws did say, hey, why don’t you get it into its MOT? And I thought, no, it doesn’t need its MOT. It had its MOT back in January. I think this is my last year with the car, though, and then I’ll have to finance a new car or get or something like that. But I don’t want to be one of those guys that has like a different car every year. I try I just run mine like use mine till they expire. Yeah. and and my wife said, “Why don’t you want to get rid of it?” “Oh my god, you’ve got it attached to it.” That’s like, “It’s my baby.” And she’s like, “It’s not a baby, it’s a car.” I do all my work online service and everything, do whatever repairs I can. So, that’s it. But then I thought, let’s just cycle in, do the park run, get the car paid, repairs paid for, and then make my way home. Be quite local then. Yeah. Yeah. But it was either a toss up between this one or Peele. And I thought Peele would be nice cuz I love the university campus and all that. But I thought, let’s just do Fton and then I can just go to Bolton gym afterwards. Feels a nice one day like this. Yeah. It is. Yeah. And it’s not very usual that we get weather like this. And it’s a bit funny that me in-laws have gone and it’s nice again. They’ve been spending the past two weeks saying I’m cold in Korean. So every 10 every 10 minutes I hear the word a which means I’m cold. It’s been cold. I know. That’s what I said to be warmer in Korea then. Maybe it’s 32° up there. So Oh dear. They were lovely house guests, but I think they were getting to that point where I was just like they were getting fed up with me and I was getting fed up with them. In-laws are in-laws no matter how nice you are. Yeah. At least we got on together. Yeah. But with the language barrier, at least maybe I just didn’t understand them. Did they speak any English? The basics like how are you? Hello, how are you? Are you okay? And that’s it really. You not teach it in school over there? No, they teach American American English up there, but they learn it so then they forget it. They learn it just in case if they work in America or something like that. So, every so often I hear the word and I go bus station. Yes, and I go bus station. I’m going to go a bit further back. Yeah, you too. You can do all right. help you get tired. Oh, yeah. I was around twice before this morning. I’ve only done it twice. Let’s go and do some runs. Oh my god. We all the only person. I’m not that fast. your attention for a couple of minutes. Good morning. If you’re doing a run for the first time, give us a wave. Yeah. Well, okay. I’m give us a wave. I’ve got Doris from Norwich and Salewhere. We have the pacer today. We only have one pri. Sorry, Phil. There we go. We also have a couple of big announcements on the number of part runs. We’ve got three people doing their 250th today. We wouldn’t wear a green anyway. Have we got any more mileston? No. Okay then. Right. So, house rules. If you’re running with a dog, please pick them on a short handheld lead. Um, any under 11s must be within arms reach of their adults. If anybody does get into difficulty, we’ve got marshals on all the corners. Just make yourself known to them and they can get in touch with me. Hopefully, that won’t happen. We don’t have sole use in the park. So, please be courteous to any other park users and of course be courteous to each other. We are here to have a good time to play tonight. And I think that’s it. Just one last thing to do is to thank all our volunteers. Morning. Our time is ready. Good luck. Good luck everyone. Usually at least 2 minutes, but not 10. Keep moving. Nice and steady. I can still feel I can still feel what’s burn. Good morning. Ah, hello. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Good job everyone. Good job. Keep going. Well done, man. Good job. Come on, buddy. Heat. Heat. Heat. I’ve seen your videos before. Oh, have you? Oh, thank you. Yeah, thank you. You too. Keep up the good work. Which uh YouTube video? Um the running Mark. Yeah, I thought that would be you. So, you’ve been running B a lot. Yeah. You This is my local one and all that. uh did a bunch of I spent all of 2023 touring park runs and your runs were very helpful. Oh, thank you. It’s great to see people that can appreciate the videos. I I appreciate how stripped down they are when I try to find similar things in London. Very much like personality for when I just want to know what the that’s it. You just want to know what the run is like and you just want to and some of them are very like sped up and they go edit it and speed it up and it’s like yeah or just cut out chunks like free not to do there’s one guy who he seems lovely but really annoy he always starts at the back and tries to get first position Jesus no I won’t rude I won’t do that no cuz you have to understand there’s walkers there’s dog walkers the pram users there’s lower runners. There’s f there’s even the best laid out park run was like a pinch point and if you’re trying really hard to get but no last week I did Edinburgh and it’s like and I just went okay I did Edinburgh cuz I was up there I was enjoying the Fringe Festival but but then I just say to every single parkman that I do um I do my best and and try not to throw at the end. No, I I appreciate it. I’ve watched a lot of And what I tend to do with videos, I I don’t talk to people. I kind of look that way. So then I’m not exposing everyone and it’s a perfect place. So But you have to respect that a lot of people might feel self-conscious about especially if they’re like pushing hard. Yeah. No one. No, no, definitely not. Like I say to my wife, it doesn’t matter what I’m wearing as long as I turn up and and I don’t dress for un unsociable weathers. It’s a lovely day. It is. Yeah. It’s actually quite wooded as well this one. It’s not Yeah. No, a lot of it shelter. Yeah, cuz I thought it’d be all like exposed with all the trees being so far out, but it’s it’s an odd mix. It’s so traily. stopped for 183.
