A cyclist said she feels too ‘traumatised’ to cycle to work after a man pushed her off her bike into a canal in a row over her not ‘slowing down’.

Klaudia Mitura was cycling next to Ashton Canal just outside Manchester city centre on her usual morning commute two weeks ago [July 19]. It was there she came across a couple walking their dog in the opposite direction.

Footage from the cyclist’s bike camera shows Klaudia breaking in front of the couple as one of them appears to shout for her to ‘slow down’. The 34-year-old can be heard protesting that they have a dog, but the man angrily retorts ‘yeah but you’re on a f**king bike’.

He then calls her ‘a f***king idiot’ before pushing her in the water. Klaudia, who cannot swim, said her feet were strapped on the bike pedals making it hard for her to get out – leaving her fearing she would ‘drown’.

The mum-of-two said she stepped on a rock and remained in the canal for five minutes until a passer-by spotted her and helped her out.

  1. To be fair she should have stopped and waited for them to pass the path was narrow instead she tried to push her way through. Cyclists should give way to pedestrians in these sort of circumstances. If she had I doubt that she would have gone for an expected dip.

  2. The man should not have pushed her — that kind of physical response is unacceptable, regardless of the situation. Even the dog appeared startled by what happened.

That said, I do often encounter groups of cyclists speeding down the towpath at 20 to 25 miles per hour. Many seem to disregard the presence of dogs, anglers, and children, especially when fully kitted out in cycling gear. It creates a tense environment for everyone else using the path.

In this case, although the cyclist did stop, her earlier speed may have contributed to the man’s reaction. If she was frightened by the dog, she might have considered dismounting and using the bike as a barrier — most dogs won’t approach if there’s something between them. Yes, the dog should have placed on a lead.

Ultimately, the man’s actions were disproportionate and could be considered assault, or worse. It’s a reminder that shared spaces require mutual respect and calm, especially when tensions run high.

  3. Bit ott but I've seen it happen where I live before and there both in the wrong in my opinion lad over reacted and the lass on the bike should of started to slow bit earlier so both should of been in the drink

  4. That’s just unreal I can’t believe what I’m seeing this country is a disgrace at the moment some morons jus5 think they can do as they please.

  5. I don't normally comment, but as we all know, the highway code was changed to emphasise the safety of vulnerable users where larger vehicles give way to lesser vehicles and pedestrians being classed as the most vulnerable. Cyclists expect trucks, vans, cars to give them "right of way" just like pedestrians have the expectation that they would be given way to by cyclists. Inconvenient, but the right thing to do would be for the cyclist to pull to one side (maybe in the passing place she rode by) until such time as the pedestrians had passed them. Another example of an entitled cyclist thinking they're at the top of the food chain.

  6. I'm a cyclist and the woman on her bike was going to fast. When you see people with dogs walking or without dogs. Have some due care and respect. It's not a racecourse

  7. That male walker stopped right in front of her on purpose. His partner and the dog stood to one side but he was trying to prove a point and just wanted to have a go at someone. If it had been a man he wouldn't have done it. He has a problem with women. The cyclist was trying to get away from him but he was trying to control the situation by not letting her past. These sort of people will always blame someone else for their bad temper. Hope the police take this seriously.

  8. I don't like dogs off the lead running loose, nor do I like reckless speeding cyclists. Both had some degree of fault, but he had no right to push her in.

  9. Cannot see in that video the man pushing her. She was cycling way to fast up to the people and their dog, she should have stopped and dismounted. Pedestrians always have the right of way, it is time cyclists learned that. Cyclists are very quick to post video when vehicles are to close, same thing for Pedestrians, give them at least 1.5m clearance, or stop and dismount if you cannot.

  10. 1. he didn't at all when he saw her and took the full width of the path

    2. dog wasn't leashed

    3. HE was confrontational from the start.

    4. She was slowing down and not very fast to begin with.

Whats the dudes problem? Just make space, you are not alone on the path. Absolute prick.

He's saying she hit him with the handlebar and went into the water because of it. If that's true she would have veered to the RIGHT, away from the canal. Not into it.

  11. He had to tell her to slow down..she had no intention of slowing down for this family, she should of showed some respect and got off her bike whilst passing them!!

  12. She was hurtling towards them
    He said ‘slow down’
    She said ‘it’s dog’
He said yeah you’re on an f’in bike’ & then stepped aside

    Where was the alleged push?

  13. Everyone is up in arms about this , but do we know for sure he pushed her ? Canals are never deep and her problem was her feet clipped into these straps. If her feet were in the straps as video suggests, is it not possible that she fell in herself , because her feet were still in the pedals. They are like those cyclists that lean on your car at traffic lights, rather than un clip. Until I see footage of him pushing her , I am on the fence.

  14. Problem is there is no clear evidence whether he pushed her or whether she clipped him when trying to go around and therefore lost balance and fell in.

No excuse / justification for him if he did push her. Just not enough evidence to know how the fall happened.
