Day one on the Velo Route 5 🚴♂️ Starting in Reading, England, I’ve committed to cycling the entire route without taking a single train or bus. Just my bike, my camping kit, and the open road ahead.
Leaving the city, I thought I’d have my first campsite sorted early… but the first spot I found was far too busy. So I pushed on into the evening, looking for somewhere quiet where I could pitch up without interruption. The later it got, the more I wondered if I’d end up cycling in the dark. Eventually, I found my spot — under a tree, away from the noise, the perfect place to call home for the night.
This is just the start of a much bigger journey. Over the next weeks, I’ll be pedalling through towns, villages, and wild stretches of countryside, following the Velo Route 5 all the way towards Italy. Along the way I’ll be sharing the highs, the lows, and the honest realities of long-distance cycling. No sugar-coating, no highlight reel — just what it’s really like to live on the road.
If you’ve ever dreamed about ditching public transport, slowing down, and experiencing travel at the speed of your own legs, stick around. This is the journey where every kilometre is earned.
