So just to add…I have installed a range of road, MTB and gravel tyres from Goodyear, Vittoria, schwlabe, maxis, specialised and continental, tubeless and tubed, so I’m not a complete noob.
Never have I had soo much trouble as I did with these. I went straight in to set up tubeless, I was pumping my high volume pump like crazy for 20 minutes. Finally it sealed. I tested the seat by dropping the pressure the next day and immediately my peatys sealant poured out the bead area all over the rim, which made me nervous about the reliability of the set-up.
For the second tyre I couldn’t be bothered to do another tubeless set up as I needed to use the bike. So I went with the inner tube. I could not get it to seat no matter how much I wrestled the tyre, I used soapy water, I used slow pumping, fast pumping. I stopped after the 10th attempt. The tyre would look a little warped or bulgy in places. I checked the tube to be sure it wasn’t pinched. I moved the tyre around. I thought it might be the rim, but the Goodyear’s seated okay.
There was also a slight hairline crack in the side wall, it might just be on the logo print but again it made me nervous about trusting the tyre. If I were to have a puncture on the road, I would never be able to remove and put back on correctly.
Either there is a slight misalignment with the wheel or as I believe these tyres although 40 mm in width require a much narrower rim width than other brands.
