Surprisingly new balls and grease will get you home on this and around town a few times. It’s mostly pitting from rust / galvanic erosion , the real killer is even regular wear marks where the balls have broken through the surface hardening and created “notches”. So this is not as bad as you could imagine. … it’s worth putting in a bag and keeping with the frame, people throw these out and then later on find it hard to replace them. Spare old stuff is harder to get now…

I’d replace the whole headset because of the pitting. A new headset is super cheap and will last a very long time. It will make your steering and tracking much better. You could keep it but there isn’t really anything special about that one.
