Hey all,

Just getting into cycling, and saw Voler's mystery jersey sale as a perfect opportunity to check my jersey size without breaking the bank. This is the club fit, so I'm not expecting it to be plastered to my body by any means. The shoulders and chest fit alright, and the bicep is ok, though the scrunchy cuff at the bottom is a smidge tight (though I suppose I could always cut the elastic if I wanted to).

My real question is how exactly are jerseys supposed to fit? I know they're longer at the back so as to still cover you while bent over while riding, but I've got a bit of a shorter torso for my size; I'm 5'8.5", and this is a size medium. If I pull the jersey down taught (Pictures 1 and 2), it comes down just past my butt, but it feels pretty snug and the moment I do any kind of moving it scrunches back up to a more natural resting place closer to my hips (Pictures 3 and 4). I'm worried that sizing up to a large would be an even LONGER torso and look ridiculous on me.

Any recommendations for a shorter stockier guy on jersey buying? Also forgive the absolute disarray of my room.

  1. Jerseys are supposed to fit as tight as possible, without any fabric bunching. If anything you’d probably want to go down a size from the medium.

But starting out, if you’re a bit self conscious and getting used to the idea of wearing tighter fitting gear, it’s fine to go a bit looser. Definitely wouldn’t size up from that though.

The saying goes “if it zips, it fits”, in that it should be skin tight for the most part

Definitely don’t size up to a large! The medium looks like a reasonable size for a club fit. Some jerseys are just longer. I’m not sure what brands have shorter jerseys for men but it’s definitely worth trying to find a shorter brand if you want to get more jerseys. A few of the jerseys that I have are the right width but too long so I just let them scrunch up when I ride.
