From what I understand the speedster 20's con is the mechanical disc brakes – but this one has rim brakes, is it an older version? I'm an absolute newbie in biking, any advice is appreciated :))

If the drive train is in decent shape, it’s an OK deal. If you need new chain, cassette, and chainrings, it’s probably not.
I think this is a 2013 model. It really comes down to how much use it’s had and how well it’s maintained. I’d aim to get them to a lower price in any condition but especially if it needs parts or work.
If it’s in good condition and fits you then yes that’s a decent deal. Only way to really tell is to have a look at it close up and look for any obvious signs of wear. Try to figure out if the owner rode it a lot, kept it well maintained or if it’s just been sitting in a garage for years. Flat front tire in a sales picture would suggest it either wasn’t well maintained or wasn’t ridden.
Curious how it got all those scratches on the seatstay? Kind of a weird place, but maybe the guy parked it backwards into a bike rack a lot or something?
to be honest, yeah, fair price, decent bike
