I’ve had my Brompton for a little while now and absolutely love it. I clean and lube the chain regularly, but I’m starting to think more about long-term care and keeping it in top condition. I’d really appreciate hearing what others do as part of their maintenance routine. How often do you check or replace your chain, inspect your hub, or adjust brake and gear cables? Do you lubricate the hinges or tighten key bolts on a schedule? I’m also wondering if there are any commonly overlooked areas that deserve attention. If anyone follows a specific checklist or timeline (monthly, seasonal, etc.), I’d love to hear about that too. Keen to make this bike last for years and stay reliable for commuting and weekend rides, thanks in advance!

Keep the running gear clean and lubed. Lubing dirty chains, sprockets and jockey wheels never helps.

So I’ve put my suggestions below I do a little more than this but this should be perfectly fine and relatively easy to do ensuring a long life for your Brompton.

Every week you should oil your hinges it’s amazing how this
will limit your hinge wear especially stiffness.

Lube your drivetrain about once a week to once a fortnight and keep it clean too.

Give the bike a once over every six months check bolts brake and tyre, brake pad wear etc…

Service once a year either yourself or a competent and trusted bike shop.
