Hello I’ve been looking to purchase a bike for commuting and I came across these two good options which are 80 and 125 respectively. I don’t plan on cycling more than really necessary outside of maybe a five mile radius and safety is priority. The one thing about where I live is that it can be on the hillier side and we do deal with rain a lot. If you have any insight it’d be much appreciated

  1. First, they are both good choices assuming they are in good condition. I don’t think either has a meaningful safety advantage.

Second, think about sizing. The Breezer looks smaller, and the step-through makes it more accessible no matter what. So if one is going to fit you better than the other, that would be the tie-breaker for me.

Third, the primary trade-off you are probably looking at (again assuming both are in good condition) is the benefit of the 8 gear Nexus on the Breezer v. the 3 gear nexus on the Priority (advantage Breezer) against the benefit of the lighter frame on the Priority and its belt drive. I’m guessing the Breezer would be a fairly heavy bike, but that would only concern me if you are huffing it up a couple of flights of stairs. There is not an obvious answer. The hillier part of your terrain favors the Breezer. The wet part favors the Priority and its belt.

I own a Priority, but I’d probably favor the Breezer here – but not by a lot.
