in this video we’re going to be taking my brand new Lucid lemon Adidas Pro fours along to a half marathon in Essex to find out if they perform on race day but also if they now fit me [Music] properly hello everybody and welcome to 40 runs if you’re new around here my name is Chris for and I’m a running coach who love to make YouTube videos about running and running shoes and other running content and in today’s video we’re going to be looking at the Adidas Pro four I’m going to be taking along my brand new Lucid lemon ads Pro fors to the chelsford half marathon to First you see what they’re like a 8 Minute miles cuz that’s my marathon gold past but also to find out if my new pair actually fit me so how this video is going to work we’re actually going to do a quick recap on the profile we’re going to quickly go through the STS of features if you know nothing about the shoe I’m then going to tell you the problem about the sizing I’ve had and then we’re going to go to the chelwood half marathon we’re going to find out what they’re like and whether the new size actually fits me is going to be okay for the London marathan got it let’s move on so this is my original pair of Adidas adzo Pro fors I’ve done lots of videos on this shoe so I need you to watch all of them and while you’re watching it make sure you subscribe now I really love this shoe but one big problem with the shoe was the sizing now I tried everything in this shoe we did a 5K time TR we did some races in it we did a 21 M long run in it but the biggest problem I had was the sizing so when the new colorways dropped I picked up the Lucid lemon ones now these are now a UK 10 so for anyone in the US this is a US 10 and a half half where these are US 10 uh European 44 UK 9 and A2 now I need a shoe that fits me well because I’ve got to do the London marathon in April and I’m really hoping to run it in these because when I ran it in those ones I really enjoyed them but I say that sizing issue was a problem I absolutely battered my feet but I loved the shoe so that’s why I’ve gone up to these so this shoe features the new Light Strike Pro which is a lot softer we’ve got the new uh more aggressive tow spring so the geometry has been changed this has been pulled back to give you that more sort of aggressive tow spring with the shoe it still features the energy rods 2.0 we got this lovely upper on the shoe nice bit of Cony rubber action on the forefoot and as you’ll see there there’s no wear and tear on that shoe the foam is compressive and responsive it’s unstable compared to the previous version but it’s not like a Hoka cello X1 2.0 it’s just a really bouncy springy Marathon monster right so with that all done we’re now going to take this along to the chelsford half Baron to see what this is like plan is to run it under goal Pace a fraction so 8 Minute Away 753 but say for argument sake that’s around four 5 minute kilm just under we’re going to run it there now the chel half is a little bit up and down so I don’t know exactly what’s going to happen in terms of the day but we’re going to try and run as close to that as possible so ideally I finish somewhere between 140 and 145 that’s the plan and like I said most importantly I’m going to report back to you in terms of the sizing I did promise you that in the videos we did uh on the sort of older version I said I’d report back on the sizing once I get the new pair so that’s what we’re going to do as well that will come after the race sort of Vlog part of this video I’ll give you that feedback in terms of how the shoe felt for sizing and how the ride was and all that kind of other stuff that I find while I’m out there on 13.1 miles right team so that’s it now let’s head over to the chelsford half marathon the biggest half marathon in Essex and let’s go and find out how the Lucid lemon Pro Force handle [Music] [Applause] [Music] race okay team so I’m back from the chel half and it’s not good news right so scores on the doors 137 and change today um ran pretty steady 715 per mile I don’t know what these kilometers my bad just got back all the way through and then the wheel sort of came off about 10 11 miles I should have probably stepped on it but I don’t know I wasn’t really in um the right mindset today U to go after it but either way 137 I’m pretty happy with that in terms of timing uh the course is a little bit wiy uh as well so all in all I’m okay with that in terms of um how I did I’m still a little bit irked about it cuz I was on 135 Pace the whole way but anyway that is what it is as I said on this channel million times we don’t run for times for me it’s all about the product the byproduct of my training so I’m okay where I’m at but here’s the thing we’ve got a major problem in terms of the shoes okay so here they are today’s a weapon of choice Adidas Pro 4 uh the biggest problem I have today is that I have two massive and I am talking massive blisters on the bottom of my feet now that’s obviously to do with the fact that the Rings Incorrect and my foot is sort of shuffling a little bit here and causing friction under my foot so I’ve got basically blisters see where that is effectively around here and if you’ve seen the gate analysis video I do uh I did uh you’ll see that I kind of tend to grip on a little bit with my toes H and here is where I’ve got on both feet a very large blister from today and like I said this is due to the fact that my foot where I’m here today uh is basically doing this for 13 miles get a bit closer and that’s causing friction underneath and that’s what’s caused the issue now obviously I don’t want that for the London Marathon now I have to give the shoe some credit because it held 7:15 Pace really easy um and I was quicker than that at some points I was slower as well and it wasn’t unstable anything like that this shoe is brilliant uh if you can get the sizing right it it performed exceptionally well um I really enjoyed the rocker I really enjoyed the bounce I really enjoyed the the feel of the shoe when I’m on it but obviously I’ve now got this problem with the blisters so it’s a bit of a warning to you all in terms of the sizing uh if you’re like me basically between sizes uh that’s pretty much what I’ve learned today you may come up with the same issue now u i was s to Simon in the car on the way back whether you know the lacing but I did have them cinched down pretty tight whether a marathon Loop in this may solve it I don’t know but it’s it’s a lot to risk for race day so annoyingly I’m kind of back at square one which is a bit of a worry with 6 weeks to go to the London Marathon I was hoping this was going to be the shoe for London and then I would then take a pair of these to Chicago marathon as we go and try run a PB there but I’m now doubting whether this is the shoe you know it’s it’s so hard so s and I were talking in the car do I go back to the pro three I’ve got uh 21 mil next weekend but I’m going to running that in the Hocus yellow X1 I’ve then got an 18 mile run and then I’ve got a 20 M race so really I need to get a race day shoe in so I can wear it at their 20 mile run but what that is I’m not 100% sure s was talking about say the Pro 3 but he also mentioned the vapor fly 3 cuz you can pick them up pretty cheap um I was actually thinking about the SC Elite version 4 cuz I love that sh and I ran Yorkshire marathan in that shoe and had no problem with it in terms of sizing comfort and everything but I don’t know whether it’s it’s responsive enough uh for me to to to run the sort of time the pace that I want to run the first 20 miles in London I’m just not convinced I I mean again I absolutely love the SC Elite vers for if you’re looking to run you know 4 hours you’re a bigger dude dud s whatever that shoe is brilliant and you can pick it up cheaper now cuz the fth versions on the way but I don’t know this is giving me a real headache people and I mean a real headache but ultimately that’s why we take them uh to these races to test them uh so you know lesson learn and that was the reason I wanted to do it so the good thing is today wasn’t the London marathon and I’ve not got the the discomfort under my foot cuz I did feel it from about 11 miles it was actually excruciating on the right hand side you know when it you can just feeling it’s like it’s just getting worse it’s like a burning sensation I had that from about mile 11 which again probably um impacted uh the time I ran today I think actually a lot of what I ran today the timing was down to my fueling and a few other factors I got in my own way uh in terms of as I said you I wasn’t in the right mental space but I I don’t know I don’t know what to do what do you suggest people so right now I’m thinking Pro three I think that’s the logical thing to do I ran my fastest half I ran my fastest marathon in the Pro three so I I could go that direction don’t know it’s a tough one is it I just I wanted something a little bit more exp and then Pro three is brilliant okay side just ran like a 133 half in his it’s such a brilliant show and maybe I’m looking for like a a unicorn you know but I don’t know the The Meta speed again that gave me a slight blister same place by the way so it’s my um gate okay so I don’t know whether my point is is the Met speed won’t work um I don’t know what else there is out there really to consider vaporfly 3 was the one that we thought about because they come down in price because vaporfly 4 is now here but vaporfly 4 the Stack’s been reduced and I can’t wear the alphafly 3 because of the arch issue with it so again my head keeps going back to the Adidas Pro 3 but I really I don’t know that I keep thinking about the I keep thinking about the SC Elite version 4 cuz they’ve got a Landon color as well which is quite nice so I’m tempted to go there uh so that’s it really uh bit of a shocker actually as I said the the shoe in the first half was phenomenal like phenomenal if the sizing works for you it’s the best I think race day shoe that’s out there at the moment honestly the foam is brilliant The Rocker in is brilliant the um the upper I was going to say the fit the upper is brilliant the propulsion in it’s brilliant the stability uh as well as brilliant as I say today’s course is a little bit tricky in terms of a bit of weaving and things like that absolutely brilliant it really is it’s a phenomenal show but it the sizing has changed for me and it’s a bit weird thing to say but the sizing is out I am about a 9.75 or 9.65 in them so unless you’re working for adid das and you can make me a pair custom in time for the London Marathon I’m a bit screwed right guys so that’s it um didn’t think this video would end up like this I thought I would run that today um I’d say the profile was amazing and this is my Marathon shoe for London and I’m going to be a hero and we’re going to smash this out but hasn’t worked out like that but there that’s it guys so don’t forget to subscribe we got to do all that you got follow me on Instagram for umore runs and I’ll see you on uh what video we got coming up next I can’t remember now but I’ll see you on Thursday yeah Thursday I might try and get a Nike Vero video that cuz we’ have had that by for a week by then um so that might be a good shout maybe we’ll do the vomero 18 video on uh Thursday H but you uh you actually you would have missed Because by the time this video comes out I’d have done the live stream so there my point me saying that but yeah I’ll probably do the Vero video on um Thursday so watch out for that because I’ve had them a week which I’m going to really enjoy running this week because with those two blits under my feet I think the Vero 18 is going to be an absolute dream right guys I shall catch you all later

  1. Interesting. I'm a US 10 and I've got on great with both the Pro3 and the new Pro4. No issues. I think for you the Nitro Elite is worth consideration for the London Marathon, no? You seem to have Puma sizing dialed and it's a great race day shoe IMO,.

  2. What about the alphafly or one of the metaspeed? Well forget about those suggestions after hearing what you said towards the end of the video. A pair of one of the Saucony's??

  3. My 2 cents, and with my experience is blistering might have more to do with your socks than with the shoe. I used to get blisters and used to tape to limit rubbing, when I switched to drymax socks which sit very tight to the skin and also CEP low socks, both keep feet dry and rub free. Especially given you mention you did locked down into the shoe. But the rubbing that happens is not between your skin and the shoe, its between your skin and the sock. Hope this helps, i used to get blisters especially trial running, and that really helped to understand how to avoid them.

  4. I've had the same issue with my superblast 2. Ran 2 half marathons and horrendous blisters on the inside of my feet. Annoying as ran a 5km and half PB in them. My friend is having the exact same issue with them. Luckily resell market is good as I've just sold them for £20 less than I paid,

  5. I did read on Reddit by a few reviews that they do have exceptionally ‘slippery’ insoles. And changing them helps massively, I tried it on my pair and it does seem to work, well it did for me anyway.

  6. What about a thicker sock? I had (small) issues with Endorphin Pro 4 in a thin race sock during a 10K. Wore a thicker sock Balega Hidden Comfort for the Brighton Half and no problems at all

  7. Went true to size and it's the most comfortable racing shoes I have ever worn. First time I wore them I broke my half marathon PB and finished with very fresh legs. It's a shoe for people loading the forefoot, if you run slower than 1h15 half marathon pace you are not running fast enough to unlock the potential of the shoes. I have narrow feet. Same size in Alphafly 1/2, Vaporfly Next% 1/2/3

  8. some brands increase the upper height as you move up a size, just a few mm but enough to cause issues for some resulting in rubs blisters. feeling not on it, pop a nootropics gel nothing less then 200mg caffeine better if its 300mg then see the mindset flip to boost mode

  9. Replace the insoles, they're a bit slippery so your feet keep sliding around.
Another solution is to buy Leukotape P to tape the bottom of your feet.

  10. I had the same sizing issue with these shoes—got nasty midfoot blisters during a half, which made it tough to hit sub-90. Sizing down isn’t an option either unless I want black toenails instead 😀That said, they’re incredible shoes and a joy to run in—I smashed my PRs in both the 10K and half in them!

  11. Fit of the pro 4 is awful first shoe in years that have given me blisters l, sized up half a size are regular were too tight . Fast shoe but I could never imagine running a marathon in it not it would be worth the pain

  12. You should try women’s UK 10.5. That’s the equivalent of a men’s UK 9.5, but sometimes they wind up being those in between sizes that you need. I did exactly this in the US and it worked out for me!

  13. Saucony endorphin elite 2 has a similar cushion to the pro 4 but the rocker isnt as far back which is where you had the blisters?

  14. Why are you only running goal pace for the first 20 miles at London? Who knows if you'll ever be in shape to give it a good crack for the full 26. You need to go for it

  15. Why not try the Saucony Endorphin Elite 2? I know your little toes don’t like it, but maybe tape them or try going half a size up? My Endorphin pro 3 and pro 4 size is US 10,5, Endorphin speed 3 and 4 I also wear in a US 10,5. The Elite 2 I wear in a size US 11 and it fits great. I found that this shoe runs short; the size of the inner sole (US 11) is the same length as the inner sole Pro 3 (US 10,5). Another option is the Endorphin pro 4.

A cheaper option is to try other socks first in combination with a runners loop. I can recommend Feetures socks; they are the best ones I've tried.

  16. Bizarre with the blisters under the feet. I never had ones even with a bad sizing. And I never use the marathoner loop. Why not the Brooks Elite 4 PB ?

  17. @fordyruns what shoes would you recommend for Ironman competition, im doing the full ironman and i just want comfort and stable shoes cause after 180km of bike i have to do a marathon. I have asics novablast 5 but they are banned for Ironman.
Im a bit overponation and liiitle bit heel striker…

  18. I really like this shoe but as a heavier runner it does sink in a little. What would be your recommendation for a circa 4 hour shoe for London?

  19. Wow there are so many suggestions. I’m waiting for someone to suggest sacrificing a live chicken under the light of a full moon while watching funny cat YouTube videos. Seriously I’d try an insole or sock change. Pro 4’s are awesome if you get the fit right. Good luck Fordy.

  20. Hi Fordy, your reviews are always spot on and have not let me down yet, so worried i may experience the same problem (also a 9.5 usually, so was going to get the 10). I have previously used an orthotic insole, do you think that could help here and prevent the blisters (appreciate that's not what they're designed for)?

  21. Have these Lucid Lemon Pro 4s as well. I'm concerned with the reports and friends telling me the foam just dulls around 100-125 miles. Really wanted to wear mine at Boston in 3 weeks but concerned. May have to just fall back to the AF3s.

  22. I bought the TTS AP4 and it fit small. Then I tried the larger model in the store, but felt my foot sliding back and forth in the store. I kept the smaller size. I did lose a toenail after my marathon but besides that the shoe fits better with the smaller size, even though it is tight. I cannot have my foot sliding. Both the upper and the insole seem kind of “plasticky” where my foot can slide on the insole and then it bumps against the “plasticky” upper. For me if the upper were slightly stretchy in a more traditional cloth the smaller size might work better than it does, and if the insole were not so smooth maybe the slipping wouldn’t happen with the larger size.

  23. Just done the Manchester marathon in these. My first marathon. I’m normally a size ten but got both a 10 and a 10.5 to try and the 10 felt far too tight. I did a couple of 5km and a half marathon in them with no real issues but my feet are in pieces after Sunday. I ran a 2:56 and the last 3/4 miles were torture. I’ve two black big toenails, a loose toenail on my toe next to my big toe on my right foot and a blister on the bottom of my foot like you describe.

  24. What a shame about the size. I completely agree these are the best marathon shoe out there. I’m very lucky that I’m true to size (US 10) and have no problems at all. Did Gold Coast Marathon last weekend and Run Melbourne Half today (PB by 3min). I hated the Pro 3. The Pro 4 is so incredibly cushioned yet explosive. I just don’t realize how fast I’m running and stay fresh.

  25. The sizing issue with the Adizero Pro 4 is properly annoying. Its not a cheap shoe either. Go standard/usual size and they're too tight. Go half a size up and your foot slides around and they no longer feel fast. Come on Adidas, put this right!
