I ride almost completely solo because I don’t have any friends that got into MTBing at the same age as me.

I want to start going on group rides to meet people in my area and feel more part of a community. I feel like my jumping really holds me back (that and I ride analog). Just need some honest advice, how bad is it? Can I get better on my own I should I pay for some instruction. Even recording on your own is quite tough.

Worth noting with my current technique I don’t have the confidence to send gaps.

Jumping – should I pay for support?

That’s honestly not much of a jump, so unfortunately can’t provide feedback. You’re really just sending it with speed and not doing much on the bike.

A lot of trails don’t require jumping skills though. I would wager that most of your trails don’t need you to be clearing gaps to be fun.

Coaching can definitely help and group coaching can help you meet local riders into the same thing.

  2. Nobody on a group ride will care how well you can or can’t jump.

In my area you won’t really find trails with non-optional gap jumps until you get to double black level, and it would be really rare to have a group ride on a trail like that.

Lessons are a good idea though. Just for your own progress.

You don’t need coaching. You need a group ride full of people better than you. Try keeping up with them – it’s the best way to improve.

What does “riding analog” mean? I’m just getting into mtb and having a blast tearing down simple trails. That jump looks fun!
