Nathan Law from Lansdowne, Semington, has been jailed for a year following a road pursuit through Melksham, during which the 42-year-old drove at excess speed, performed dangerous overtakes, drove the wrong way around roundabouts and head on into the path of members of the public.

On Wednesday, 7 May, Law failed to stop for officers earlier in the day and his black Vauxhall Astra was lost to sight.

Shortly afterwards, the vehicle was located by the Roads Policing Unit on Pathfinder Way in Melksham where again he made off from police.

The pursuit eventually stopped following contact between the Astra and a police vehicle.

Law was arrested at the scene and charged with dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

Appearing before Swindon Magistrates Court, Law pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.

He was also disqualified from driving for five years, five months and 28 days with a requirement to pass an extended driving test and must pay a £187 surcharge.

PC Ben Greening of Wiltshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit said: “This was some of the most shocking and dangerous driving that I have witnessed in my 11 years of policing.

“His reckless behaviour showed absolutely no regard for the safety of members of the public and he was only brought to a halt following robust action on the part of pursuing officers.

“We are determined to tackle such offenders and bring them before the courts.”

  1. I'm wondering how someone can buy a car without license and insurance. How he can be a car owner without those two itens?

    Crazy people and strange system.

  2. And make him pay for any damage caused the the police vehicles due to his failing to stop!! Why should the taxpayer have to pay to repair vehicles damaged by criminals?

  3. This man was given a lighter sentence than social media posters. The establishment has it's priorities wrong which is why it is going to be replaced!

  4. 12 months? that's more offensive than the guy's crime…for me, 5 years for every mile. To understand why it's only 12 months you have to look back at Britain's class history. You will find that any crime more likely to be committed by someone with affluence (such as a car owner – which used to be a privileged thing) carries virtually no punitive element. On the other hand, poaching in a river on a private estate can see you banged up for 10 years. Welcome to the feudal system.

  5. 3rd time caught driving whilst banned for previous and drug offences. He'll be out tin 12 months (or less) and will do the same again.

  6. been watching some U.K. cop videos this morning i notice these dangerous driving prison sentences are all about a year but i saw one guy not driving dangerous that had a little over 69 kg of amphetamine in his vehicle get 5 months

  7. Perhaps if the useless uniformed road-tax collectors practiced their PIT manoeuvres more than collecting tax, this would have ended sooner and safer!
