I do like this era of Defy, but they were not expensive bikes even when new. This is the older style of Claris too which is less desirable than the modern one with cable routing under the bar tape. I think I’d want to be closer to 250.

I would be mindful of the rim brakes. I’m not trying to start a performance discussion but just in terms of parts availability and longevity. I had trouble find parts for an old rim brake bike at 3 nearby bike shops. Just something to keep in mind if you plan on keeping the bike long term.

The seller is lying about the original value of the bike. In 2014 a full Carbon fibre equipped defy with Shimano 105 was about $1800. There is no way an aluminium Defy with low end Claris components like this one would have cost $1700 like the claim.
By using Google I have discovered that the bike was a $700 bike when new, and therefore it’s maybe worth $200 now.
