I bought this S & m Hoder BTM on market place and since then I’ve replaced the brake cable/housing and the brakes improved but still don’t have the stopping power that they should. I also wiped down the rims with isopropyl alcohol and sanded the grime off of the brake pads. I’ve also messed with tightening/loosening the Allen springs in the pic I let my son degrease my chain and I’m guessing he got some on my rim because my brakes worked great that day although pretty squeaky. My brake pads are kool stop and the brakes are TRP with an odyssey lever. I’ve been fiddling with them for a while now and I’m close to just taking them off and cutting my bars down cause they are like 32inches lmao. I’m looking for brakes that I can stall with. Thanks for y’all’s time!

  1. Seems you could install some washers on the inside of the brake arms to get them closer to the rim?

  2. Honestly, watch a few YouTube videos on setting up bmx brakes. I feel like even explaining it perfectly its still better to see it. Personally, I clamp my brakes shut, run the adjuster on the lever all the way in or close to it, loosen the brake cable nut/bolt, pull cable hand tight, and retighten the nut/bolt. I like my brakes to lock up with around a 1/4in pull. If the brake cable isn’t linear and in the cheaper side, the pull will always stretch in my experience.

  3. Are your barrel adjusters maxed out?
To me it seems like something else is keeping them from gripping.
Put some simple green on the rim that should get them to lock.

Tri flow the shit out of the cable grease the brake post and the cable end in the brake lever. As for stopping power try clear pads or salmon colored kool stops. Simple green on a rag and clean the rim and pads

The biggest difference would come from and eclat or fly straddle that don’t have bend for the flex

  6. Clear brake pads are the best for gripping power for stalling. And people think I’m weird but I love dialed brakes for fufanus and such. Use a hot glue stick spin ypur wheel and rub the stick on the rim. Do that 2 or 3 times per side and it makes the brakes lock the wheel up. Its my personal preference on my brakes and I’ve done it for years. 👍👍

Pads come in different sizes and levels of hardness, softer ones grip better on painted rims so maybe grab a few different types to try out
