This is day five of cycling the length of Britain on a junkyard bike with virtually no money. So day five ends up being an absolutely brutal type 2 fun kind of day. I’m riding into the wind all day. But my main challenge is that after 4 days of riding England’s buttery smooth roads, my ass has developed some really nasty saddle sores on this bike and I have some really bad blisters on my hands as well. Oh god, this is just so painful right now. I am definitely not having an easy time with it. But on the bright side, it’s making me really appreciate my normal setup. And I will never take my saddle for granted ever again. Feeling a bit sorry for myself, I treat myself to a stop at the next Aldi, splurging £14 on a grapefruit to fight the scurvy and a loaf of bread to keep me going. I grip my teeth through 70 painful miles of cycling and eventually arrive in York where I’m staying with some friends who treat me to a wonderful dinner. After 5 days of cycling, I covered a little over 300 m, £242 spent. How he will crawl.

  1. Dude….2 weeks on a bike , 2 months recovering from the saddle sores with no riding at all. I hope you've talked to normal gorgeous bike about this somewhat salty affair.

  2. As you're doing long days your sub quality horse deck might indeed endanger your trip and those planned in the near future. It might be just the right time to find another reputable bikeyard to switch it or to start wearing padded shorts. And maybe lowering that tyre pressure a bit? Best of British luck, old bean!
