It’s day one heading back from Frankfurt to Zurich. Uh the plan is to go to Mannheim today. Initial portion of this route is headed out along the Mine River, which I’m pretty sure I wrote about exactly 2 years ago when I was last in Frankfurt. Also, the signage is good, and I love good signage. Route is 1 kilometer behind you. We’ve made it to the Eurov 15. Signage locked and loaded. Good morning. It’s day two. Uh, small change of plans. Instead of cycling the Rine route going south, I decided to take the train to Carloo. And now I’m going to cycle a route through the Black Forest, which I learned about a few days ago, and hopefully make it back to Zurich sometime in the next 5 days. I’m following this sign, which will hopefully take me a few hundred kilometers south to the border with Switzerland near Basil. First pastry of the day is a walnut brownie from this little shop right here. We have public seating and a view. So thoughtful. More public seating and a nice trash bin. Sometimes you will get wet. Made it to a campground for the evening. I was a little surprised by two things today. One, how few other people I saw bike packing the route. Two, how few campgrounds there were. Good morning. It’s day three. Just finished 5 kilometers of uphill. I found a different route that goes a little bit more directly towards Zurich. So, I headed to the nearest train station to go a little bit further south. Hopefully, it doesn’t rain today. Look at all that signage. [Music] I am now following the panorama bike path. I think this is what single family housing in Germany looks like. [Music] This is about as good as it gets. We’ve got signage. We’ve got a bench. We’ve got a pastry and we’ve got shade. Good morning. It’s day four. Following some more carfree cycle paths through the Black Forest. The last few days have been pretty hilly and my legs are pretty tired, so I’m going to use the train again to cut it short a bit. Pastry of the day is some kind of cake. The temperature difference when you get off the pavement and away from the cars is like 7 to 8°. We’re going to have a bit of a feast tonight. I’m making dah for my warm showers hosts. So, I got groceries. [Music] Ask him how he did it last time. Good morning. It’s day six. Ended up taking a rest day on day five because my warm showers hosts were very kind and offered for me to stay another night. We ate a lot of food. We washed some windows, went for a bike ride. Today I need to make it back to Zurich. So I’m going to bike about 2 and 1/2 hours to Wald and then take the train back. My warm showers host from last night made some fresh bread. Bread and chocolate are pretty much the elixirs of life on a bike tour. [Music] Pastry of the day is ice cream. And we’re home.
