Can’t decide on which front rack/basket combo to use. 1st one is the Velo Orange Porteur rack. 2nd pic is the Surly 8 pk Rack w/ wald basket. Lend me your opinions.
Also this one without the basket and just the rack.

Basket is way more useful than 1″ high rails. There are lots of companies that make bags specifically for the Wald 137.

8 pack with the basket gives you two different options. You don’t always need the extra lb. On your fork.

Both. Obviously each will be better for different loads. So have both and put on the one you need for the load you will be hauling. This is xbiking and we don’t hesitate to spend $$$$.

2nd rack has much stronger and more stable mounting points so that’s my vote. I don’t like racks that mount to the brake hole.

On an everyday bike a basket is more practical. But I don’t like the aesthetics of the Surly rack.
I’d get the silver+wide version of the rack that Pelago sells and would put a Wald 137 on it.

Wald wins for function, but Vel-O scores big style points

VO rack with rails removed and basket added.
It’s heavier, but I prefer the wider platform and the ability to use pannier.

2nd one. Baskets are practical in a way a slighlty raised edge just isn’t. It’s also more efficient and imo at least looks better to not have long unnecessary stays going all thr way down to thr dropouts. Why have all those extra mounting points on your fork if you’re not going to use them?

I have the 8 pack rack. You can use the basket, but if you need more surface area you can attach a tv tray.

Hands down, it’s nummer won.

Without an explanation of your use case, it’s hard to make that call for you.
If you’re running panniers, then 1. If not, then 2.
If it’s purely for looks, 1 by a hair, but both are good.
