During our European Holiday Vacation, we had 3 full days to spend in Munich. Both of us had been to Munich twice before, so we wanted to add in a day trip somewhere neither of us have been to. It was the very beginning of the Christmas Market Season in Germany, however, many of the more famous Markets weren’t quite open yet. So we scrambled to fine one that was one and not that far away. In the end, we found Augsburg to be the best option, and we are glad that we did. Obviously this video takes place in cold weather during Christmas Season, but I really think it would be a great day trip from Munich any time of the year. It was a quick visit, but we certainly enjoyed it. Hope you enjoy the video as well and thanks for tuning in!!

About Us:
We have been married since 2009 and reside near Pittsburgh, PA. Even before we were married, we loved planning trips and traveling to cool destinations. It has now become our passion and we love diving into new foreign cultures, food, and attractions. We started making home DVDs for our own keepsake many years ago. It was a great way to preserve memories and re-live those moments whenever we wanted. We eventually found that uploading these videos to YouTube made a lot of sense. We could share them with family and friends across the country in real time, on smart TVs, Ipads, and smart phones. That eventually led to us creating the “Matt n Rach” YouTube Channel. Our focus now is not only to preserve our memories, but to include educational and useful information for our viewers as well.
In 2022 we had our daughter, Vivienne, who is now a big part of our traveling team. Traveling with a small child certainly has its challenges, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. We hope you enjoy our content and please leave a comment if you liked our video or have some something you’d like to share. We love hearing from our viewers!!

[Music] in our last video we left salsburg Austria by train and arrived in a snowy Munich Germany at the very beginning of the Christmas holiday season we ate and drank our way through the beer Halls took in some interesting history and explored several of the city’s famous Christmas markets be sure to check out that video if you haven’t already but during our stay in Munich we wanted to leave the city and take a day trip to experience another German Christmas Market elsewhere in a smaller setting at this point many of the well-known ones nearby weren’t open yet but we found one in an interesting town that was open just a short train ride away come with us as we explore Augsburg Germany it is another snowy day here in Germany and today we are catching a train just down the block from where we’re staying at the courtyard here in Munich and we’re going to Augsburg very excited about this their Christmas Market is open and Augsburg yeah it’s about I think about a half hour away our train be leaving it about 25 minutes but it is just up the street [Music] here I don’t know what it is but just when you think you got these European train stations figured out well they can be a bit confusing [Music] good morning ladies and gentlemen wel there are plenty of trains that run between Munich and Augsburg throughout the day and it’s just about a half hour long really easy journey and quite enjoyable [Music] actually we made it here in Augsburg on a snowy day should be really neat we don’t really know anything about Augsburg look like a CO other than it looked like it had a nice Christmas Market and uh shout out to my Aunt Patty my Aunt Patty served in US Armed Forces back in the early 80s and lived in Augsburg so thank you for your service a Patty we’ll check check out your your old uh stomping grounds here today well this is this is really the Christmas spirit isn’t it I mean having this snow come down doesn’t get any better than this now I don’t expect many tourists to be here uh it’s a little bit out of the way here and it’s just started the Christmas Market I got to check my direction well we’re now heading into the old town and we’re going to try to find the Christmas Market [Music] wow what a cool setting this is isn’t it uhhuh right in like the town story yeah this is like the main Square here in oxburg I’ll put the name down here but yeah how [Music] cool augsburg’s magical Christmas Market is actually one of Germany’s oldest dating back to the 15th century it features over 170 stalls throughout the city and is known for its Charming atmosphere here you can find crafts ornaments and a lot of traditional local holiday food the rat house or Town Hall provides a stunning backdrop to the scene in its old town and trust me when I say this the smells coming from these stalls are absolutely [Music] wonderful it’s definitely time for glue Vine Cheers Cheers got the cool glue Vine mugs [Music] here hot boozy very nice though what a [Music] day I really don’t think we could have picked a better day to come to this market now I want to take a minute to [Music] Augsburg [Music] all right there’s like nobody in this town until you get to the square and it’s it’s busy yeah wow what a cool Market I feel like they have the best Christmas mugs too yeah the best Christmas mugs like definitely an awesome Christmas Market [Applause] here [Music] just walking around this place will make you incredibly hungry just from smelling everything so instead of eating here which would have been nice we are going to go find a restaurant nearby somewhere we can cozy up and get Vivie out of her stroller and grab some good [Music] food time to get something to eat walk around the markets for a little bit time to get some food putting the jacket to the test today and it is nice so found this place on Google got some good reviews looks like they I got some nice hearty food on a cold day like today R is hungry everybody’s hungry can’t wait to eat I’ve already had it once this trip but I am ready for another vener schnitzel that’s for sure and the local hosen beer which is bruden Augsburg is [Music] excellent we got some pork and fries for Vivy chicken she’s all ready she’s all in on it that’s good [Music] water okay so we just went to the G house really nice little place inside very traditional German um food was pretty good say like an eight yeah service was really good 8 and 1/2 mhm atmosphere I bet at night it’s better yeah eight 8 and 1/2 I’d say cuz it it is yeah it’s Unique it is unique deserves our recommendation I would [Music] say [Music] what a beautiful little town huh I like it I don’t know if it’s little City yeah I don’t know really how big it is I’ll put the population statistics here on the screen but really really nice friendly place with a fantastic Christmas Market and that’s we’re going to head back there next maybe get something [Music] sweet and we have a palm tree out in the snow Yeah palm tree with Christmas lights [Music] happy [Music] birthday and there was no way we were going to leave here without trying the famous dump noodle which is a fluffy traditional German yeast dumpling served with vanilla sauce like a piece of bread good that is really good just used the bathroom here and they have the best urinal Puck things I’ve ever seen in my [Music] life there’s the offices of Howen brow the beer we had at lunch all right well we’re going to buy tickets to return even though didn’t check us coming here it was $25 per person maybe a little bit more but yeah just need to buy some tickets get back to Munich what a wonderful afternoon in Augsburg tremendous [Music] Place say a little confusing here yeah with the trains we were able to figure it out but with the stroller it’s a little diff difficult to get around unless you want to carry it down the steps which I’ve been doing so we got about 13 minutes until our train comes to go back to [Music] Munich back to Munich yeah back to snowy Munich very [Music] nice

Did you kiss your lady when the train stopped in K……?
The intention is good but the director is worthless
Augsburg is actually the oldest town in Bavaria and in competition for the oldest in Germany…
There is so much history, 2000yrs ago romans built the basic… during the medieval times the Fugger Family, who until today exist and their forefather was and would be still today the richest person of the world (he exceeded the Medici) installed a city in the city – oldest social housing in the world, where people still live for a rent of about one dollar per year…
The Mozart Family came from here before they moved to Salzburg… Bert Brecht and Rudolf Diesel are also from Augsburg.
🍺🍺
Thank You Aunt Patti! I was stationed in Augsburg in the late 70's and absolutely loved the place.
I’m an American looking to go to school in Augsburg. Great video guys!
I love everything about Augsburg and especially its Christmasmarkt! Great video!
I lived in Augsburg in the early 90’s! Great place to spend 7th and 8th grade
btw…. Glühwein was invented / first served in Augsburg😉
At 10:00 you walk by the Mozart house , where Mozart family used to live . Next time be sure to visit the Rathaus inside. It has amazing architectur inside, like the Golden Hall. Just behind the Rathaus the Unterstadt begins, old medevial small hauses and narrow streets where the handyman lived . Also interessting would be the Fuggerei, a town within the town, where poor peoiple still live in cute tiny houses for about 3 dollars a year rent! It hasnt changed in 500 years.
