Managed to snag a brand new 2025 Spectral 125 AL 5 last night for $1k shipped during the Woot sale.

I was just about to drop $3k for the Commencal Meta V5 Essential, but decided this Spectral would be a good fit for the price considering that I’m a beginner and haven’t even started jumping yet. Currently riding a 2014 Trek Fuel EX 5.

Any upgrades you guys think I should make? Everything on it looks to be at the least decent, minus maybe the fork. Maybe a decent fox 34 rhythm with the grip damper would be a decent upgrade for $250?

  1. It’s a solid bike, I wouldn’t upgrade anything just for the heck of it. The 35 Gold isn’t even horrendous. If I was going to upgrade the fork, I’d consider going a Pike or at least a Performance shock.

If you just saved almost $2k on the bike, I’d use the money for a trip instead of upgrading.

If you’re a beginner, I wouldn’t even worry about upgrades. You’re not going to be anywhere near the limits of this bike. Gain experience and then make the upgrades that make sense for you.

  3. Just ride it as it is, nothing on this bike “needs” upgrading, everythng is decent and it’s a really well considered spec.

  4. Honestly I don’t even think it needs any upgrades. That’s pretty much a perfect starter bike and you got a killer deal on it. If I was spec’ing an entry level bike it pretty much has exactly what I’d put on it.
