Hi there and apologies if that has been asked already but I’d really appreciate your guys’ help in this matter.
I am trying to decide between the Grail CF SL 7 or the Endurace AL 7. It’s going to be my very first “premium” bike and I’d like to ride it for a long time. I would mainly use it on tarmac but we do have a lot of gravel paths here as well.
My concern is, if the Grail will be just as fast as the Endurace on the Road? And if it’s worth it in your opinion?
The Grail CF SL 7 is currently [in Stock](https://www.canyon.com/de-at/gravel-bikes/performance/grail/cf-sl/grail-cf-sl-7/3095.html?dwvar_3095_pv_rahmenfarbe=R064_P15) and on sale and would cost me 2199 Euro. The Carbon Version of the Endurace is currently not in Stock and will be available in Summer next year. I don’t want to wait for so long, that’s why I’m considering getting the [AL Version](https://www.canyon.com/de-at/rennrad/endurance-rennrad/endurace/al/endurace-7/2733.html?dwvar_2733_pv_rahmenfarbe=R074_P05) instead.
So my question is: Is the Grail CF SL 7 worth the money? Does it offer good Value for 2199 Euro? Or should I wait a bit and go with the less expensive Aluminum Endurace 7, which costs 1499 Euro. Not gonna lie, the Endurace kinda looks cheap in comparison, but I haven’t seen them in real life, so I can’t really tell how they look. From what I read, people either love the Grail or they hate it (Hoverbars).
Also, can anyone in here tell me about the Geometry between these two bikes? I know that the Endurace is a more comfortable bike and the Grail is more “aggressive”. But how much more aggressive is it really?
I’ve heard that there will be a new Canyon Grail released soon. Do you guys think it will be in a similar price range as the current Grail-Lineup? (2000-3000€)
Thanks!

I just can’t get past the cockpit area on the grail. I have already changed the stem on my Endurace cf8. If that part does not bother you I doubt there will be a ton of difference on the road as long as you swap tires.
They will refresh the grail in literally 5 days [https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cfs-gravel-event-tickets-722040270887?keep_tld=1](https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cfs-gravel-event-tickets-722040270887?keep_tld=1)
Probably will remove the double decker
I believe that Endurance is the way to go, and that’s what I do. I own a new Endurance SLX CF8, and I run it on the road [and on gravel](https://imgur.com/wavfaNB).
I replaced the stock 30/32mm tires with 28mm tires for road use, and I bought a [new wheelset with 35mm Gravel Kings for gravel rides](https://imgur.com/a/tmcJyaQ). This setup is perfect for me.
On the front, I could have easily gone 38mm (I test fit an old wheelset that has a 38mm Specialized Sawtooth 2Bliss, and it was fine), and I think 40mm would fit as well with ample clearance (but maybe not ideal for mud).
On the rear, the 38mm was really close to rubbing the Force derailer ‘wedge’, but I later learned that you can run without that wedge per the SRAM documentation, so while the frame clearance is a little tight at the chainstays, I think it is possible to go 38mm if you really want to (and are okay with a tight clearance). I can’t speak to the clearance of other front derailleurs (Rival or Shimano).
As for compromising.. I think running a road bike on gravel is a better compromise than running a gravel bike on the road, partially because my road:gravel mix is 80:20, but also weight and overall geometry. The Endurance handles fine on the dirt, I personally don’t need a slacker HTA or longer wheelbase. And it’s the most comfortable curly bar bike I’ve ever owned.
