Spaßig, spritzig, imposant – die Ardèche, ein Kajak Paddeltraum

Den imponierenden Steinbogen haben wohl schon viele mal auf Bildern gesehen. Endlich konnten wir dort selber einmal durchpaddeln. Und außerhalb der Saison sogar ohne Heerscharen von anderen Paddlern …
Knappe 13 km ging unsere Paddeltour von Sampzon über Vallon-Pont-d’Arc bis zum Parkplatz Belvédère. Mit unseren Luftbooten haben wir dabei 3 Bootsrutschen und ein paar wildere Stellen bezwungen.
Am Pont d’Arc haben wir natürlich eine längere Pause inklusive Badestopp eingelegt.

Hello there, I’m Matthes! I find myself here in early October, still in the late summer of Southern France, and yes, today we’re heading to the Ardèche, and I’m really looking forward to it. So, we’re here at, I believe Pont de Moulin, it’s called, if not, I’ll put it on the screen again, getting started. As always, we’ve taken care of the logistics in advance. We drove to the entry point, where I dropped off the family with all our gear. Then to the endpoint at the Charmes parking lot, and from there, I took a taxi back to the entry point. That means, we’re completely relaxed now, we can arrive whenever we want and can enjoy the Ardèche here and later, the Pont d’Arc that I’m really looking forward to. Let’s go! This will be fun! And fun to fall down there. Yes, we still have two or three more of those boat slides to go. Even though Mom’s not looking forward to them. I’m excited to tip over there. Imagine that as a boat slide. From up there? Oh my! I think I’d be scared too. Not me. A boat slide down the whole mountain. Oh, oh, oh, that would be too dangerous for me. That would be great! Hello! Hello! Mom’s really playing with the camera. Ah, shade! No! What do you mean no? It’s pretty warm. We have 28 degrees here today in early October. So, there are different tour lengths here. If you start in Vallon-Pont-d’Arc, you can take a tour that’s 6-7 km to Chames. Where we’re getting off today. But that was too short for us. The next option from Vallon-Pont-d’Arc is a 30 km route. That was too long for us, as we’re more of the turtle type. So we started a bit upstream, at the third weir above Vallon-Pont-d’Arc, and now we have about 12-13 km to paddle. That seemed just right for us. So it remains a relaxed day trip.

Is everyone okay? I didn’t expect there to be a one-meter free fall down there. I didn’t expect that. That was cool; I want to do it again. Of course, we all forgot to put on our helmets. Now we’re all acting crazy. Everyone has a helmet with them; now we’re going through the boat slide without them. We’re so silly. There’s the next slide already. Quick break over, next boat slide. This time, as we planned it. Ready, Max? Yes. Yeah? Alright then. This one is definitely shorter than the previous one. Why didn’t we go down there? Well, it’s dangerous there. Here come the other two. Yes! Be careful, Max, you’re getting wet! Watch out! Now for the last boat slide. Such a strong current! Look, someone built a tower of stones here. I promised myself today that my seat would stay completely dry. I can forget about that now! Yes, you wanted to go for a swim anyway. I’m surprised that Max is still dry. But a little water has seeped in at the back for me. I always get wet.
I’m always getting wet. Here begins the most beautiful part of the route. Through the gorge. Incredible. Paddle over there! We’re probably too late, and we won’t have any sun left at the most beautiful spot. That would be a shame. That would be a shame. Careful, Max, look ahead! You’re becoming a whitewater kayaker after all. But that worked, right? Otherwise, you’ll have to let Mascha take the back seat. She’ll handle it. Hello. Oh, you need to hurry here. Paddle more over there. Go over there! Mom definitely won’t like this. Straighten up, and down. Max, we drove really stupidly. The girls did it much better. Why do I get wet when Mom makes a mistake?
