Hi, just came back from a trip to the Alps to watch the Tour and was dreading unboxing the bike box after seeing it being chucked around by airport staff. Anyway, there is a sizeable paint chip and some scratches in the base of the fork. Any suggestions on what my next move is? Concerned about more paint coming and obviously the safety issues.

It's a Giant TCR from 2024, issue being that the paint is like an iridescent colour which will be hard to replace. Material is Giant's advanced grade composite.

Many thanks in advance, feeling pretty bummed out right now.

Advanced Grade Composite is just Giant’s fancy carbon fibre. There’s a chance that whatever caused the paint chips also made a crack in the carbon fibres under the paint. The paint chipping more is less of a concern.

Rule 4 applies here, return it if you can or take it to a carbon specialist where they can check for cracks.
