This is a new derailleur and the first one I’ve ever fit. The bolt is bottomed out and not cross threaded. Any ideas?

I feel like the silver thing shouldn’t be able to move.
It’s neither Shimano or SRAM right? Because both of them have that step of ensuring that the derailleur touches a stop on the hanger.
Yes too much wiggle normally with a derailed you get a new mount
For your singlespeed conversion it *should* be fine, but I’d return it for another one, especially if you think you might switch back to multiple gears some day.
Alternatively take it off and put a thin spacer between it and the frame.
