I found this in my Tufo Thundero HD 40mm tire. It is about 1cm wide. The tire is pretty new, I’ve ridden it about 350km. It is mounted tubeless and there is nothing leaking. I also checked the inside and the damage does not go through the tire, seems to be superficial but quite gnarly. Throw your opinions ne experiences at me 🙂

Maybe I should add the question: Do you think it needs to be replaced? Could this be a case for a quality claim?
I would for sure bin this one, looks like it’s about to become a whole lot more serious. Remember with tyres that they’re the only thing in contact with the ground, when they break, often the rider does too!
Murphy‘s law. When it fails catastrophically it will happen at the worst moment possible….
Ride at your own risk. If it is the front make sure you have good dental insurance.
Can you see any date in the tyre. Maybe they have been stored for a long time in the warehouse.
