I built up a Gary Fisher Marlin a while back for commuting and didn’t use it very much because it felt sluggish. I catch a ferry that runs on a limited schedule for part of my commute and on days when I was running late, it just required more effort than I would have preferred.
Given that experience, I wanted something faster that I could build up with parts I already had. Lastly, given my location, I don’t want to feel especially worried if I park it outside a store for a little bit. I found this Miyata Seven Ten and thought I’d give it a shot. The only new parts were the 160mm Spa Cycles XD2 clone crank arms, tires, grips and Sunrace M96 shifter (would have preferred the M90). Took it to the City a couple days ago and so far I’m liking it. It’s the fastest bike in my quiver of slow bikes!

Hell yeah! Miyata frames are excellent! That build is sick! I love that you have a thumb shifter for the rear derailleur and kept the downtube shifter for the front derailleur. did a restomod of a 512. Replaced everything on it but the headset lol. They ride so well!
