This is day one of cycling the length of Britain on a junkyard bicycle with virtually no money. Okay, so the plan for the next two weeks is to cycle the full length of Britain from Brighton on the south coast up to Jona Gro at the top of Scotland. The bike was salvaged from a junkyard and all of the rest of my equipment was purchased for a grand total of £550. So let’s hope it holds together all the way up to the north coast. My day started well pedaling north away from Brighton in the south coast. I got hungry pretty quickly, so I headed to the nearest little to find myself something to eat. This very kind lady has insisted on buying the one pound of worth of groceries that I was going to be going to be going for. Embarrassing. Thank you so much. What’s What’s your name? I’m Wendy. Wendy. I’m Tristan. Thank you so much for that. I really really appreciate that, Wendy. Fueled on jam sandwiches and having so far spent no money, I set about starting to get used to my new bike. The saddle I’ve got, it’s definitely given me some concerns for the well-being of my ass. I push on and the weather soon starts getting miserable. I meet some French cyclists who have pedled here all the way from Paris. We all get pretty wet, but this is England after all. What a great place to be a duck. I push my overloaded and undergeeared bike over the North Downs. Get very wet and eventually make it into London. I make good use of homefield advantage by staying with one of my best friends and he kindly sorts me out delicious spaghetti bolognese for dinner. Day one done, 70 mi down and zero spent. 850 miles to go. Follow along to find out how far I

Fair play mate – best of luck 😊
Love it 😂😂😂😂 I’ve been looking at riding Lands End to John of Groats. Are you going to rode on that trail or just making your own path?
legendary. Super hero. When your in a low just imagine doing this on a penny farthing!
Amazing. Well done. Is it for charity? Can i donate?
Top marks, old chap! Best of British luck as you trundle across this green and pleasant land. May the wind be ever at your back, the rain forget your name, and your noble steed—creaks, rust, and all—cling together like a proper old warhorse. Here’s hoping your saddle shows mercy to your poor backside and doesn’t leave you walking like a cowboy by day three. Godspeed, and don’t forget: tea solves most things!
Awesome! 😃 But what happened to your trip through the Americas?
I used to have that same front bag and the plastic thingamajig that connects it to the bars broke after a few grocery trips so try not to overload it 😂 i think i had a carton of milk and a carton of juice when it broke on me.
Bro, I thought you were in Mexico ?
It must be soooo heavy coming from a top equipped Surly…😂
Hey there, as someone who just recently got into the field of bikepacking, it's refreshing to see someone not using a $3,000 gravel bike with $1,000 bags, but instead enjoying the kind of equipment they already have. Keep it rolling!
