After my previous post I did some more searching and narrowed my available options to basically these two, as far as used bikes go. If neither of these are worth it, what would be the most ideal new bike for around the same price range (~$500)?

I live off of gravel roads, so I'll be riding on those a bit, but I'm really wanting to get into the many trails in the area. But nothing too crazy (like no big jumps or drops).

Cannondale Trail – $500
29" wheels, 12spd, 150mm dropper

Giant Talon 2 – $450
27.5" wheels, 3x10spd, has upgrades over stock rhough not sure on details

I'm still considering the Ozark Trail since it seems to be the best go-to in my price range, but I'm willing to hear out any other good options as well.

Thanks all!

That cannondale looks about a million times better than the giant. Look up the exact model and compare to the price online. If it’s around half the price it’s probably a decent deal it looks pretty new.

  2. If you can swing it, the Specialized Rockhopper Comp is on sale at around $675 and is a good value (not the regular Rockhopper), and worthwhile upgrade. The Ozark is more similar to the ones you listed. I don’t know enough about those specific bikes from whatever year to give you guidance on that.
