known for its dense Woodlands enchanting landscapes in traditional Villages Germany’s Black Forest is a top destination for lovers of Nature and visitors seeking to explore the settings of the most timeless and classic fairy tales in history towering trees and hidden paths evoke a sense of magic and wonder and culinary Delights like the black forest cake and tyes is soak in the Region’s Rich folklore and mysterious charm if you’ve been following our channel for a little bit you know that I’m such a big fan of fairy tales so much so that we’ve named both of our dogs gredle and jepetto after fairy tale characters and so knowing that you can probably understand how thrilled I am to be in the Black Forest this has been a dream destination of mine ever since I was a little kid and to start our time here we’ve decided to stay in freyberg which is a University City we’ve made it our home base while exploring this region it’s known for a really beautiful old town and also a vibrant culinary scene so we’re going to enjoy a little bit of that as we start our time here here in the Black Forest so without further Ado let’s head on [Music] out we are starting our day at a local Brewery and this is our very first black forest meal I am so so excited to dig in I got the visha shaa I think that’s how you say it but it’s basically a pork shoulder and it comes with some parsley potatoes and sauerkraut and of course some beautiful golden mustard and then Chad decided to get the rump steak it also comes with some potatoes on the side and also in IR butter and we have been sharing a wheat beer it has been such a wonderful time but let’s eat [Music] can’t ever keep up with Chad he’s too fast oh man going to have to walk that off [Music] which one you like [Music] after walking around Oldtown for a little bit I’ve just found that this place is so enchanting and one of my favorite things is the stream that runs through the city it’s very small but I just love hearing the sound of the water flowing and it actually reminds me very much of ho Tio Peru and that is the only other town that I’ve been to that has these tiny streams so it’s cool to kind of have like a flashback of somewhere else that we’ve been on the other side of the world and then I also really love these sidewalks and the stone that they’ve uh lined it with they’ve made little pretzels little apples and stars just artwork that’s really beautiful to walk on and I also really enjoyed looking at the manholes that feature this castle with I believe a dragon and it’s just so Whimsical it is very Whimsical and the stones that Claire was talking about they’re all like Little River stones but altogether the town is just so livable it’s so fun to walk around there’s that old church in the center of uh fryberg that’s from 1200 so we walked in there real quick I just think it’d be so cool to go to school here it is just like such a nice little city we’ve seen a lot of younger people and I’m assuming they go to school here and they ride around on their bikes they’re at the breweries enjoying a beer with friends and I just think this is just so fun oh my goodness going to school in the Black Forest what a dream [Music] [Applause] we have been hiking on the schlosburg loop trail and it takes you from Old Town up into the surrounding forest and so for the last hour or so we’ve just been listening to the birds chirping in the woods and also cooling off in the dense canopy of the forest yeah it’s actually been insane the number of birds on this Trail because I don’t think I’ve ever heard this many birds and there’s just been one bird off in the distance that literally sounds exactly like a cucko clock and I just think it’s amazing because it’s like oh I’ve never heard that anywhere else I guess that’s where they got it yeah I [Music] hiking cake is one of my favorite foods in the world so whenever we have a new cake to try I get very very excited and this here is the black forest cake it has chocolate and cherries and cream just all the good things I love how the top of it kind of looks like the um like the forest floor that we’ve been walking on today you know with all the leaves this was something that CL has been talking about ever since planning this trip like she’s been very excited for this moment oh yeah I’m like Chad got to have the black forest cake all right we only have one fork so we can’t cheers but I can quickly I can cheer you on yeah cheer me on please yeah woo woo yeah m M The Crowd Goes Wild I don’t have cherry cake very often like cherry pies cherry tarts common but cherry cake is it soaked in like a liquor or something oh it does taste like there’s some liquor yeah the cream is extremely light and so is the cake and that’s my favorite part I don’t like it when cakes have like a really heavy icing I feel like it steals steals the show what is that buttercream typically like it’s kind of hard right icing that’s what it’s called yeah this is like a whipped cream oh that’s [Music] true we have officially made it to the Black Forest Museum which is all about what life was like in the Black Forest 600 years ago as we were driving in there were these cutouts of these women on like all of the bus stations that we were passing these women have these like traditional hats that I guess they would have worn 600 years ago and I just think it’s so funny looking it’s like these little balls honestly it looks like a cake or something but they remind me of cherries yeah they are kind of like cherries on the black hor it’s really a cool outfit too it’s very original but we’re about to go into our first house which has a lot of different history I’ve downloaded their app which is going to tell me all about everything that we’re seeing and I’m such a sucker for apps so I’m really excited to learn I always love coming to places like this where it feels like they’re transferring you back into time and you can walk in the footsteps of people of the past you have people of all ages and they would always eat together at this really long dining table and apparently there would be like one big bowl in the middle they all shared a bowl right and everyone would have their own spoon and I guess you just shovel the food into your mouth clean your own spoon and then you put it back up on the wall and we saw this leather strap that held everyone’s spoons I thought that was so funny that was really awesome and one of the things or like one of the tricks that they would do apparently was store all of their food in a separate building and they did this because if there was ever a fire they didn’t want to lose absolutely everything that was like their insurance policy and I was always curious about why the roof was so angled you know because I’m like wouldn’t it be nice to have more windows or something but the reason that they did that is because this building used to be at high altitude and so there’ be strong winds and having a a roof like that would help keep it from falling over mhm what’s cool about these homes is even though they’re three stories high you can always enter and exit from the top floor yeah it’s pretty neat cuz they could roll up their carts with all of their hay and straw or tools work up there and then go down go to bed go get a meal I like it it’s always built into a hillside [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] we are about to enter our sixth Farmhouse here and what is so unique about this place is that these are not just Recreations these are actual real life homes that existed in the black forest and the museum has relocated all of them to be right here and it blows my mind because they had to take these houses apart and then put them all back together and I literally don’t know how they did it because these are massive and they had to figure out the craftsmanship of how people did it back then so that they could do it in the proper way to have it here in the museum it’s really cool to know that we’re walking through things that have actually had other lives living in them at one point and the other thing I wanted to add is that every single one of these houses is from a different region here in Germany and so every Farmhouse has a like you know a different variation depending on their environments or what they focused [Music] on right behind me is a sawmill from the 1600s and apparently it still works this saw blade gets lifted up and then it’s dropped while this piece of wood is getting pushed in the direction that it needs to go and they just keep picking it up and dropping it until they go all the way through the piece of wood but a sawmill was super important because once a farmer was able to like mill his own wood he could then make more money by Milling other people’s wood which was a very abundant resource here we are ending our time here with looking at the more modern homes and what’s so cool is obviously people kept living in these homes and As Time progressed Life goes on and so this is like a super old house house all the floors are really slanted but everything’s themed like’ 7s cuz I think they took the house straight from the’ 70s and moved it here I love it it’s really cool when we first walked into the open air museum I saw this big refrigerator filled with five large black forest cakes and I was like oh my goodness we’re going to have to eat here for lunch so that I can have a black forest cake so we’ve come to the restaurant and we got a rler to share and this is basically a Light beer mixed with lemon soda and then we also have cartle soup which is potato soup it’s topped with some croutons and also some green onions and then we have a little Bread Basket we’ve decided to get some pizza just because we saw a field trip of kids making like dough with their hands and they’re putting it into this wood burning oven and we were like oh my gosh now I want a pizza so they have fresh oven baked pizzas on their menu and we just went for it also I just think it’s so awesome that the kids in Germany get to come to like the black forest open air museum or the go visit nanstein uh Castle just really really old things that I would have really enjoyed seeing as a child so uh there’s some lucky kids really good [Music] soup more oh in the moment I’ve been waiting for it’s glistening in the Sun so I know it’s going to be moist get a little cherry oh gosh what are you eating Claire I have no idea just the best cake on Earth [Applause] [Music] [Music] after a 30-minute drive from the Black Forest open air museum we have made it to burbach which has burbach waterfall that we’re hiking to right now it’s like this beautiful waterfall before coming to the Black Forest I had no idea why it was called the black forest the history goes back to the Romans when they came into this region they noticed that the forest was very dark and they had like this Latin word that basically translates into black forest and they were just super afraid of this region I’d say maybe it was the fairy tale creatures yeah that’s where the name the Black Forest came from and I can totally get it it is a lot darker and denser in the canopy of the forest here my big hope for our time in the Black Forest is to see a squirrel and I’ve been telling Chad to manifest seeing a squirrel because I really want to see their pointy little ears they actually look very different from the squirrels that we have in the states and I think they are so so cute but I haven’t been able to see one yet apparently this Trail to bergbach waterfall is supposed to have squirrels I’m keeping my eyes peeled so that maybe I can get a little Glimpse but this Trail has been absolutely wonderful the fields are just carpeted with Ferns and with moss and of course we have big trees surrounding us the air smells delicious delicious [Music] [Applause] [Music] Chad has got the best seat in the house a nice recliner in the middle of the black forest and there’s the waterfall I really want to build one of these in our backyard but we’d also need a bug net yeah or a dome we could stargaze room for one more no taken for the squirrels What squirrels we still haven’t seen any unfortunately wake up in 5 minutes climb aboard the SS Forest bther ah ooh very nice I don’t think I ever see Claire layback this much she’s always sitting upright even if she has a back rest she’s like anti-back rest it’s why her back is made of steel we are now leaving the dense canopy of the forest and I have to say it’s literally like night and day just because it is really dark when you’re in there and it is also kind of hard to tell what time it is especially on a cloudy day I keep on thinking about all these fairy tales and my mind just goes to there that like we’re going to round a corner there’s going to be like a witch brewing a pot or I don’t know just Hansel and grle with the what is it the breadcrumbs the cookies I don’t maybe okay maybe I’d get some cookies around the corner Chad would be the one to get lured into the Witch’s House that’s for sure Claire would be the witch what some candy BR worst Sauer cross I would lure the squirrels and how would you lure the squirrels in with acorns I’d give them something even better I am sad to say we haven’t seen any squirrels so I think we’ve lost our chance our last town in Germany it’s so sad we’ve been here for 12 days and this is the very last stop but we’ve decided to come to shill talk to end it all and not end it all oh gosh that got dark we were debating between shill talk and gangen boach but we decide to do shill talk just because it’s a little bit smaller felt a little bit more walkable and I wanted to see as much as I could uh before the sun sets so let’s go check it out [Music] [Music] [Music] this is our final meal in Germany and we’ve decided to go with flam Cochin which is something you should definitely try if you’re in the Black Forest it is kind of like a lighter Pizza it’s a very thin crust it has cheese or creem fresh topping it and then we got the wine with bacon and also onions and it smells like the holidays it’s a pizza day a pizza day different kinds of pizza [Music] yeah well guys unfortunately it is our final video in Germany oh no and we’ve only seen Southern Germany so we have so much more to see there’s Northern Central East West and we’ve just had such great beer such delicious food amazing sites but if you’re interested in following along as we travel to 50 countries around the world and hit The Black Forest region is so awesome, i love this area and would love to one day move over there instead of just visiting.
Kirsch cherry brandy
The purpose of the waterways through the town centre is to provide natural cooling to the air in warmer months. And yes, the cake is soaked in a cherry liqueur
"There's this bird that sounds exactly like a Cuckoo Clock…maybe that's where they got it?"… I have absolutely no words for this comment.
Black Forest comes from the German word Schwarzwald. Black Forest is very beautiful.
Ancestors cry
@ChadandClaire, this weather seems so nice for the Black Forest. Can you tell me in what month did you plan this trip?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2YLEp_HJ1k&ab_channel=YumMiles
this is a day trip from Freiburg. The best toboggan ride in germany in the black forest!!!
ITS NOT PRONOUNCED FRAY. "ei" is just like Friday, so say Fri-burg
Waldshut is also very beautiful as well as Todtmoos
Germany is amazing, specially the country side, thanks for the video.
Another race-mixing tourism channel.
Chad looks a lot like a famous german singer. His name is Clueso. Also ur and his first name letter start with the C. Coincidence? I don't think so.
deutschland ist wunderbar
18:33 Iit's not pizza please
05:05 You must have heard a real cuckoo. So the bird doesn't sound like a cuckoo clock, but the cuckoo clock sounds like a cuckoo. 😉

Sometimes it's strange that you learn to appreciate the region where you were born and grew up even more when you watch a video like yours. Additional information from a "local": The color of the "balls" on the traditional hats has a meaning. Married women carry black balls, single women red ones. This allowed young men to identify which women were still unmarried.
You made one big mistake: you drank a Weizen instead of the local brewed Feierling Beer 😬😉. If your come again, don't forget to visit the Schauinsland and the Belchen mountain.
Nice Video.
Just one correction: Neuschwanstein is not really old. Not even 150 years old. We do have old castles, but that's not one of them. 😉
Black Forest cherry cake contains cherry liquor made from locally grown cherries. That’s the point of this cake. Without the liquor it is not a Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte.
The bird you heard in the forest is really called the cuckoo, and the cuckoo Clock is named after it. The Black Forest gateau consists of chocolate sponge, whipped cream, cherries and the base is soaked in cherry brandy. The Black Forest is famous for its cherry brandy as well as the possibility of Black Forest gateau
Какой отличный видеоролик. Спасибо! Как интересно показано и рассказано. Я обожаю Фрайбург и Шварцвальд. Я был там когда-то давно и влюбился в эти места. Спасибо за интересную экскурсию
Around 9:00 : I find so weird to think of those houses as museums. It seems all so familiar. Like, a lot of that furniture looks like things my greatgrandmother and grandmother still had in their homes, plus my parents bought a similar house with an attached barn, wood oven etc, because it was cheaper to buy initially and to renovate it room by room.
What month did you visit?
That birds name is Kuckkuck 😀
Kirschwasser (alcohol) is in the cake
traditional clothing world wide are so pretty – they gave this generation to generation and were usually sewing it together with the eldest such a nice tradition to create your own Sunday dress, Festive dress or Wedding dress…
I live in Villingen-Schwenningen, a beautiful town in the Black Forest that is over 1000 years old. I am so happy to have been born and raised in this charming part of Germany. Thank you for this heartwarming video about my home. It will help to inspire people from all over the world to visit this unique region❣️☀️🍀😃
calling Freiburg i.B. a small town is kinda funny. I mean Freiburg has a 1/4 million inhabitants
There should be a ban on Beta Caucasian + Asia frau relationships, until Asians gets to take a bite out of lemon Blondie in equal numbers.
Eye for an eye.
If you come again to the black forest area – there is a town Triberg with its waterfalls (very touristy and the waterfalls are not as great as others, but still beautiful) but they have a path specially to watch "Eichhörnchen" (squirrels) – think you would live it their
Can't wait to visit the Schwarzwald and its many charms.
Beautiful video, thanks for sharing, safe travels !
I was a student there in 1984. It was the best year of my life. Lots of great restaurants and bars etc.
The only way I
Very nice place to be, i'm almost everyday in Berlin💯👌😍
