You will never have seen anything like this. Cycling the Burren in co.Clare is on another level. Landscape just like you would imagine on the moon. The route was 102km on the specialized Roubaix. Brilliant day out on the bike and well worth the visit to the Burren

Possibly one of the most bizarre landscapes you’ll ever see on a bike ride. We are out the gap on the burn. [Music] How’s it going? Welcome back to the channel. Finally, I’m out in the white this morning. Bit of a rigma roll trying to get going, but we got here. I’ll explain that in a minute. So, the plan with the channel is to always try and get out and explore roads that I haven’t been on with the bike. And today, we’re hitting the burn county clear. Wait till we get into this properly. The landscape is unbelievable. Now, I’ve partially seen this before, just a small bit of it. One of me mates, Jar, moved up here to Claire about 2 years ago, and me and one of the boys came up to see the new house and try out the Guinness and we had a great time. But the next morning, Jar’s wife absolutely packed us into the car absolutely man brush this one. Oh, lovely. Packed us into the car and we were dying in a drink and in no mood to be sitting in the back of a car all day, but she was so proud to show off where to bought a new house. So, we went around the hench. We seen father’s head’s house, seen it in the burn, and I thought this would be unbelievable on a better day to go have a look around. Oh, today is the day. As always, the running theme on this channel is there’s always some kind of disaster and I wish there wasn’t, but something always goes wrong. So, I wanted to start the cycle in Kurin. It just seemed the most central spot to park up, do a lap around, and get back to the car. So, when I was leaving this morning, I put Corin into Google Maps. Away we go. I parked up the car. 2 and 1 half hours later, got onto the bike, put in the Roo, and I said, “Navigate to Roo.” And I was thinking, “This shouldn’t be saying. This is exactly where I should be starting. So scroll out a bit in the garment. Oh lads, I was in Corin Gway, not Corin Claire. A made a ball of it. Put myself out the way by an hour. But finally we parked up the car and corin. So let’s get into it. [Music] All I need. Oh, you need [Music] [Music] I need [Music] you. That mist better disappear. I didn’t come all this way with the drone for it to be cloudy. When you make up your own roots, you can’t complain about the climbing. We’re 30k into this already. Just can’t believe it. Feels like only cycling about 2 minutes. I just love it. Love exploring new roads I’ve never been on. [Music] [Music] The miss is gone. The weather is coming out. Oh, the west is putting on a show for us today, lads. Oh, I love it. I think now we’re just coming into the bur itself. Oh, yes. This is what I came for. We don’t have roads like this in Kenya. Ah, the west of Ireland has it all. These roads. All I need. [Music] Oh, you need [Music] All [Music] right. [Music] Now we’re starting to see a bit of the burn. I was beginning to think we’re going to miss it all together, but basically it’s just big open land. I think it translates uh baron in Irish. So, it’s just basically an area where not much grows, just a load of rock. And in between the rocks, then there’s fishes with a load of caves and all underneath, I think. Apparently, it’s very unique in Europe. So, only certain types of flowers grow here in this part of the burn in all of Europe. Don’t ask me what the flowers are, but that’s a crack with that. I could just cycle these roads on the west all day long. Just chef’s kiss. Beautiful. If we could find father or Ted’s house now, I’d be very impressed. Yes. I don’t know what it is. We’ve been spoiled the last few weeks with the tour to France and all the hill climbs, but give me the coast that sea breeze and sea air. You can’t bet it. Just hitting Liston Varna. 20 30k to go. I don’t even want it to end. Eight out of 11 climbs done. I would murder now coffee shop. Although I mean strict with calories at the minute. I would destroy a bit of coffee and cake. Ah, last climb. Little claims are killing me. Low on energy. [Music] [Music] Last time climb done into a tailwind. A let’s go. A cracking little spin today though. really enjoyed it. I didn’t kill myself. I didn’t go mad. It was just nice and relaxed. Just all I needed. I think we’re fairly set for the Everson as well. When I said it there last week, we had a good few saying I might jump into a few hill repeats. So, I think two or three weeks Woodstock Hill 84 times up and down. Gradient might be a bit too steep though. That’s the only thing I think it works out 100 m for every kilometer. So average gradient of I think 9%. At the bottom of the hill we have a little coffee shop. Across the road there’s a proper shop with food and all that. And beside the shop there’s a pub so we can uh refuel if needs be. Noting around for miles. Doesn’t get any better. And now when’s the last time you seen a car? So we’re back at the car. The wife’s car. The Scoda saga still continues. Needs a heating matrix and some cooling joke. The bill is 1,600. Brilliant. Anyway, quick look at stats for this. 102 km 24 average done in four hours 10 to be fair. Absolute savage cycle just pay the drone just fafing around taking it out and stopping starting. But uh I just think you need it. Shows off the landscape a bit better. I shows you where I’m riding. Unrelax. What a day. Oh, an absolute cracking spin. Anyway, thanks for giving it a watch. If you can hit the like, drop a comment. If you haven’t already, please subscribe. See you in the next one. 1. Thanks for taking us on the journey with you Derek. This one was a real feast for the eyes & I can tell from your reactions that it was 100 times better in person! Appreciate the drone footage – as you say, it really adds to the context. Excellent edit too. So thatโ€™s another route I need to add to the bucket list!

  2. The boy was that excited to get out he drives to the wrong place, what an amazing place canโ€™t believe how clear the sea is and no rain ๐Ÿ˜‚

  3. Fair play Derek, heading all the way over to Clare via Galway. I knew the second you mentioned it that you ended up in the other Corofin ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ, but brilliant video, youโ€™re spot on, you canโ€™t beat the coast roads on the West of Ireland. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

  4. Excellent video Derek. Your right, Burren is a cracking place. You can't beat the west of ireland for cycling or driving around. If u get the weather, theirs nowhere better.

  5. Howya Derek, hope all is well, another quality video, beautiful scenes and camerawork๐Ÿ’ฏ my favourite rides are exploring new places or roads I've never been on before and see where I end up, nothing like it, looking forward to your next video, take it easy bro ๐Ÿšด๐Ÿ‘Œ

  6. Schoolboy error on the navigation! Doh. Nice spin. Did you come across a beast of a hill called Corkscrew Hill on this one? Famous or infamous in these parts apparently. BTW, what is the long thing in front of your bike computer at the front of your bike? Also, did you get a new bike? I seem to remember you on a green bike…. And, I notice you don't wear gloves/mittens, any reason? I don't think I could cycle without my mittens! Anyway, an enjoyable video. Fair Play. Regards, Wadi.

  7. Great video Derek.. ya canโ€™t beat the wild Atlantic way, I was only myself today. Love the drone shots btw ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ
