Yes, Rob. He’s certainly getting his orders in, isn’t he? What a dramatic run into stage 17 as some riders roll across the line, clutching their injuries. Jonathan Milan clutches ever more tightly onto that green jersey. Robbie, talk us through this finish. Well, if we we look at this finish when we got through that last corner, there really weren’t many left in it. In Jonathan Milan, he was perfectly positioned coming through the final bend. He was in the wheel of Jordi Mus who’s won before on the Shaun Le and he just bited his time. Stayed in the slipstream, stood up, lit the afterburners and the rest is history. He’s he’s he’s done everything he need to do on this stage to I think sew up the green jersey. He just has to get to Paris. But all the carnage unfolded unfortunately well before that. It looked like a fairly straightforward sprint bar. you know, couple of little bump and grind moments, but uh other than other than that, it was uh it turned out to be unfortunately much more simple than we expected because not everyone was in it. We’ll get to all of the permutations of that crash in just a moment, but it was a little trek sandwich in the top 10 on the stage today with Jonathan Milan finishing in first. Jasper Stoven finishing in 10th and Matt Stevens has been catching up with him. Yasper Yasper Sturvin, what a day. What teamwork? Second win for you guys. Just describe the chaos in the finale. Oh, yeah. I think with the rain was just a bit more chaos and yeah uh they they didn’t uh make it easy for us but uh I think we moved on the right time and then uh I said in I saw the crash just happening and I said in the radio that we were going to sprint with 10 guys or 15 guys. So that also changes a lot with guys coming from the from behind. So Johnny didn’t really Yeah. didn’t need to push too much. He could wait and yeah, just uh was was nice. He trusted me today and uh I put him there and I also made a move. I knew I couldn’t do the lead out anymore, but I put him in the wheel with Jordi and I think he did perfect. That looked very tense on on the the final 10k. Looked very very nervous. Oh yeah, it was. Uh I think like I said with the rain, it’s uh it was not getting easier, but it’s a it’s a nice one, especially after a little bit of criticism yesterday. tough couple of days, but to win again, you’ve clearly got such a strong uh unified team. Yeah, I think uh it’s exactly what you say and uh I think today we we were one unit all committed to the goal and uh committed to the work, share the work and then uh it paid off. Enjoy tonight. Well done. Thank you. Cheers. Yeah, Le laying that criticism to bed today. Well, Matt Stevens has been a busy boy out there in the finish line. He’s been catching up with Quinn Simmons as well. Let’s hear from him. Quinn, you were flying today. Spent I think I was watching most of the race. You were on the front most of the day and it turned out into another victory for you. Yeah, it’s um super nice to hear in the radio that he uh he wins after a full day of work. My um my girlfriend this morning asked me why I was so nervous cuz it’s just a sprint and I just have to pull. And I told her I was like, “Well, if I have a really good day, I think I can make a sprint for Johnny and I think he’s going to win.” So, yeah, I don’t I didn’t see how the boys did in the final, but obviously they uh seem to have nailed it and we take home a second win. Yeah, there was a big crash in the final. There’s only about six or seven guys sprinting in the end, but it What was it like in the last few days with the rain? Um yeah, I’m I’m not a fan of racing in the rain, so I uh I’m quite happy to do the first 150k and then let the big boys do their work in the final. But um yeah, for sure they they seem to have nailed it. What’s Johnny Milan like as a teammate? H he’s just one of these guys that it makes it super easy to suffer for. I think he um he’s a bit uh you know the the one that wants to have the fun and the one who you know maybe spends a little bit too much energy being like this but uh it’s a really nice environment to be in. So it’s yeah it’s super nice to be here with him. Enjoy tonight. Thank you. I think that’s the best description you can possibly give of a teammate in professional cycling. He’s easy to suffer for because they’re all suffering Robbie, aren’t they? And es especially on a day like today. Lead us through then this finale, will you? Talk us through it all. All right. Well, let’s have a look first in this final straight there. I mean, there’s not many left in it. That’s everybody on one screen. Who was who was there for the sprint, but of course, we’re going to go with Jonathan Milan per right here in the middle fifth wheel in front of him. Jordi Mayos Balerini in front of him. The lead out men, they’re just about to finish their job in front. Now, back here behind Arnold Dele battling with Dasi for the wheel of Jonathan Milan. So as we roll forwards, you see that Dele gets to the wheel of Milan, overlaps it. He almost sort of preempts the sprint, then the gap opens up and so they fall into line. So now you’ve got it here. Really early start by Balerini. May he’s just looking up the right hand side where he should be lining himself up on the open side and taking a run at the wheel. On the other hand, Milan just here, he’s got this gap, so he’s leaving a little bit of clear air between himself and Jordi Moses back here. Delely already wants to be making his run. He’s got himself really tight onto the wheel of Jonathan Milan. So as we roll forwards, you see Milan sitting waiting. Delely comes right up onto the wheel and just at this moment he over he gets sort of alongside and decides no I want to sit in. I want to wait. But as Milan tries to clear Jordi Maris at the front well DeL’s just too close to the wheel overlaps it nearly goes down. Late run from Jordi Maris but it’s too little too late. There’s nothing to do about Jonathan Milan. Look, a puff of air from you there. What was that about? Yeah, Dee had a bit of a tank slapper there, didn’t he? I think. Um, yeah, I think that’s Yeah. Well, let’s go look into a wobble. Uh, tank slapper. Yeah, it’s like when you ride a motorbike and you got the tank of gas in between your legs and if you go too fast, your handlebars Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But in this in this case, it was brushing on the wheel of Jonathan Milan. So if you keep an eye on Dele there in fourth wheel he goes he gets sort of almost alongside he gets alongside the back wheel and as Jonathan Milan just comes left to make sure he’s clearing Jordi Mayus Deise just simply too close and and sort of leaning into the right and can’t get away from him. So he slaps against the back wheel. He corrects things but he he fades back to fourth gets up into third. Sorry. When you’re sprinting in these conditions as well, even if you have the best brand of glasses in the world, they get fogged up. We all know what’s racing in them glasses with all them crowds at that speed after two and a half weeks of racing. I think he’s half blind at that point. Yeah. Yeah. I’ve honestly got to the end of races in the rain and taking my glasses off after and going, “How on earth do I see anything through those?” But the other option is getting, you know, the rain and the water off the road directly into your eyes and you got to blink all the time. You can’t see anyway. such the lesser of two evils.
