Long time lurker have few questions for the experts of this sub! I found this abandoned 88 Rockhopper Comp that probably spent a few winters out in the open. It looks almost entirely original (rear wheel is missing), but I'd like some opinions.
I thought the Comp version was equipped with Deore XT, but instead it has Deore/Deore LX components. Are these the original ones?
Do the Camel Rally stickers on the fork mean anything to you (I'm in Italy if that helps)?
Is the rim original? It doesn't have any wear marks, but it doesn't look that worn; it didn't originally have any?
What's the maximum tire size I can fit with this rear brake?
What are those two small pieces of metal on the QR that you see in the last photo?
Thanks for your help, I hope to post it's rebirth soon!

I learnt from a [post here](https://www.reddit.com/r/xbiking/comments/1m8gpdn/comment/n4zkzaf/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) earlier this week that those clips are a wheel retention device, I guess if the QR failed or was too loose your wheel wouldn’t be able to go off on an adventure of it’s own.
What hub model is on the front wheel, if it’s Deore also I think maybe the rear derailleur has been replaced. Apparently Saturae wheels where an in-house Specialized brand so could be originals.
I wouldn’t worry about trying to put xt parts on that bike. Lx is fine. I’d just find a lx rear wheel and call the project done. 26x 2.2 should fit nicely.
I have an ‘89. Can confirm that is a SWEET riding frame
The Camel sticker on the fork is wild. Cool find.
