There’s an eBay seller who’s selling a black titanium rear triangle. He claims it’s a genuine part directly from Brompton and has even sent me an image of the packaging with serial number. Only thing that jumps out to me is Titanium is misspelled as ‘Titainium’ 😅

Could anyone who has purchased OEM parts let me know if this is legit?

Brompton used to sell frame parts to anyone willing to buy them but they haven’t done for a long, long time. Nowadays frame parts, and certain other things which are safety critical like hinge pins and the like, are only supplied to registered and qualified Brompton dealers with workshops.

Also, I may be wrong here but I think the Titanium fork and rear triangle were unpainted because the whole point was to keep them as light as possible and Titanium doesn’t rust.

This doesn’t feel totally legit to me. I’d avoid.

The other thing you’re going to struggle with is fitting this. The rear triangle hinge has internal bushes that need to be reamed to size with a specialist tool after fitting. On top of that, the hinge pin is held in with red loctite and is a bastard to get off.

  2. The misspelling is a big red flag, but there is a pretty easy way to double check

Go to your local dealer and ask them to look up the q code or product number on Brompton’s dealer page.
